My current host is now two weeks into helping me restore a database. The tech support is useless and everyone above them makes promises they can't follow through with. ive been getting the runaround and passed around from person to person with zero help.
So, the question is, what host would you recommend? Preferably one that has PostNuke support.
    Thanks for any opinions!

I use PowerVPS and I love it. I've also heard good things about DreamHost, although I do not have personal experience with them. And yes, the DreamHost link above is a shameless affiliate plug. icon_wink icon_razz

I have been very happy with Maine Hosting Solutions in terms of reliability and responsiveness. I have not asked them for much specific PHP or PN help, but they have helped me with MySQL issues. They sit right on a major net trunk in the northeast and have had essentially no down times in the 3+ years I have done personal web stuff with them or 5+ my medical office has used them as an ISP.

Of course, I'm in Maine myself, so I am always partial to supporting local business.

I don't have my marketing sites done, spending too much time on PostNuke related stuff to have gotten to it, but I do hosting as well. http://clients.halbrooktech.com

what i find odd is the large differences between most hosts. Some offer 200mb and others 200gb (okay, maybe not 200!). Some give out a handful of email boxes, others unlimited. The oddest thing is the pricing often doesnt match up with the services. Sometimes more space and bandwith equals cheaper price? Should cheaper be a red flag? certinly my last host reeled me in with more for less, is this the norm? Thanks

For simple shared or reseller hossting I can only suggest resellerzoom, cheap and very reliable. they allso have a good support site and if you go for their premium package (24$ and up) they will manage your customer support.

and nope no shameless affiliate links in this post, just a happy customer :P

It's the difference between an honest businessman/woman who realistically sizes and prices their plans and a marketing driven company who's only concern is making it look like they're offering the world for a song. Realistically, any host offering, say 20 Gigs of space and 1 TB of transfer for say, less than $10.00 knows that none of their clients will come anywhere close to using that space/transfer alotment. They know 99% of them will likely use less than 1/2% of that space, and so they offer it at the price that 1/2% would realistically cost them. They know that enough people will use 50 megs or less, that the few that use more will be counterd and likely, on average, the actual ammount of resources used for said host is 100 megs or less and 1-2 gigs of transfer or less. But be sure, if, all of a sudden, their clients started using more and more of their alotted space, by the time they got to, oh maybe 50% of what they've been sold, the host will start having problems.

I seriously doubt that you can even get the absolute worse bandwidth at a rate that would let $10/mo for 1 TB of transfer pay off if it was used.
