Questions about admin messages
 Top

  • I noticed that admin messages are displayed based on the creation time -- newer messages appear first. I do not see a way to re-arrange the order of messages once they are created. Well, of course there is always the option of dropping them all and recreating them in the correct order, but that is not a real solution.

If there is a way to do this, please enlighten me :) Otherwise, it would probably make it in the suggestions list.

Another thing is that the admin message IDs are not getting reused. If, for example I have messages 1, 2, and 3... and then delete number 2 and create a new message, it will have an ID of 4.

A simple solutions to both issues would be the ability to change the ID of each message. So, you can reuse IDs and also order them in any way you like.
  • For those familiar with vBulletin, it has a very cool feature of numbering each item in a category. In other words, you would have a forum category with multiple subforums, which you can arrange to your liking from the admin panel.
  • Sorry I can't be of help, but I'm curious about this as well. I'd like to be able to reorder the admin messages on my homepage. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I'll look into vBulletin if that's the best solution, but I'm having enough issues with the mods I already have and I'm not looking to add any more until I get this all straightened out.

    Thannks in advance,

You have one option for re-ordering the messages at the moment. When you edit a message there is an option 'Change start date to today? Yes or No'. This wll alter the timestamp to now. And thus the order will be changed.

The non reuse of ID's is a feature of automatic ID generation in databases. If you optimise the table the id's will be re-ordered from 1 again.

    Hope this helps.

  • It seems like that should work.... but I just tried it and it doesn't. Anyone know how the user group the message goes to effects order? I want a message to unregistered only at the top, with one for reg users only at the top and a message for everyone underneath......

I'm starting to confuse myself with this post, hope you all can make some sense of it.

P.S. In regard to my earlier post in this thread, I misunderstood what vBulletin is and will not be adding it to my site.
