Download error, FireFox only
 Top

  • Hi all. In my downloads section, I have about 10 podcast downloads which are approx. 60mb in size. Downloading in Internet Explorer is fine, but in FireFox, when a user right clicks and saves, the normal box appears, but does not save the actual mp3 file, it asks to save index.php.

I checked the links and they're correct. I also don't have any permissions specified for downloads, so I'm not sure if that could be a problem (probably not).

Any way to remedy this? Has anyone else experienced this problem?

    Thanks!!

Using: Auto Theme and PN 0.7.6.2
  • Hmmm.

Using FireFox on my Mac, seemed to work fine for me. That is, they played fine with QuickTime.

  • Sorry for the bump, but this is the only topic I could find searching the forums.

Anyways, I'm having the same exact problem as the OP. Right clicking > "Save as" works in IE but not Firefox. Doing so in Firefox asks you to save it as index.php... which is not ideal. Left clicking on the link opens up Quicktime as mentioned in the above post, but we don't want that. People need to download these files, not stream them on my site. Any help?
  • At a guess, it's to do with the way the two browsers treat the save as function.

IE obviosuly resolves the link, following the redirects to the actual download source, whereas firefox doesn't follow the redirects and therefore saves index.php.

Without rewriting the downloads module you can't change this - the downloads module sends you to the download via a redirect that counts the hits on the download link, and it is this which prevents the save as function working correctly.
