Is there a way of tweaking the stats module to prevent certain ip addresses and /or users from being counted??

the stats aren't collected for users with Edit or higher permissions. -

You can use the statistics module available as a download from http://www.mtrad.com. This is still in development but already includes more features than are currently available in the standard stats module.
A couple of those features allows you to filter stats based on IP address, Hostname and User ID. Each of these filters are specified as regular expression patterns so you can filter multiple instantations and ranges for each field. You can also consolidate statistics by a number of parameters...
BTW, it was recently pointed out to me that the install instructions really suck. I will add a news story on how to install it properly. If you download before I can do so, just drop me an email and I'll be happy to help you get it installed. Everyone who has emailed me has been able to successfully install it...
