Got to the installation page...Can't get past the database information page!

  • Here is a screen shot of what happens when I try to do a new installation using the login name and password I created in cpanel for the mysql database:

    No database made.
Warning: mysql_connect(): Access denied for user 'bluemoun_pn1\@\localhost' (using password: YES) in /home/bluemoun/public_html/postnuke/includes/classes/adodb/drivers/adodb-mysql.inc.php on line 351
    Error connecting to DB
    Program: /home/bluemoun/public_html/postnuke/install/db.php - Line N.: 45
    Database: bluemoun_pn1
Error (1045) : Access denied for user 'bluemoun_pn1\@\localhost' (using password: YES)

    Someone please help!
  • 1. Make sure the info is right
    2. Log in to CPanel, and make sure you assigned the user to the database.
  • I just logged in and it gave me the same message. Just to make sure am I using the username I created "bluemountain" which was automatically turned into "bluemoun_pn1" by cPanel. And I am using the password that I created. Also what do I put in for the database name?

    Thanks again.
  • I'd log into cPanel and:
    1. Get the exact name/spelling of your database name and username
    2. Make sure that your username and password gives you access to the database
    3. Then use that exactly spelled (and case matters) database name and username when prompted by install.php

(It appears from the error statement that install.php thinks that both your username and database name are bluemoun_pn1.)

  • Thanks for the comments everyone...however I still cannot get it to work. Can I delete the database and uninstall the PostNuke script and just create a new one and try again? Or will that delete all the PostNuke files in my ftp client that I uploaded earlier?

    Thanks again.
  • You can certainly delete the current database, create a new one, and then re-run the install process using the new database.

Make sure you carefully write down all the details of your database, like database name, usernaame, password, etc. And record your choices and inputs during the install process - it may help pinpoint what the problem is.

The files you uploaded are not in your ftp client. They are on your hosted server. Unless you specifically delete them, they will remain there.
