How can i determine (postnuke/phpnuke) version on website?  Bottom

  • I'm a webdeveloper and are looking for customers, i have targeted a site on the net and have determined that they are using either "post" or "PHP" -nuke, now i would like to know which they are using so that i can send them an designsketch that conformes with their current system.

phew, in short, are there a way to determine if a site is "PHP" or "POST" nuke, can i determine version number of the current installment also.

    /regards fredand
(ps sorry for spelling and such ds)
  • You could ask them. But perhaps the knowledge that you couldn't tell if they were using PostNuke might make them question your PostNuke expertise?

I don't agree with this statement as it can be impossible to tell the two CMS apart, especially using AutoTheme... you could always check the meta tag "generator" in the view source for an indication.

  • Ahh ok, well i rather would like to learn how to use the CMS and _then_ make an designproposal that would indeed fit their preferenses.

I looked in the "generator" tag and DUH!!! My bad! "PostNuke 0.7.2.6-Phoenix" should be all the information i need. Thanks for the response!

That's what I was thinking about.
@fredand -> Hope I didn't sound harsh. Not my intent.

  • You also need to pitch them on an upgrade then.

  • Well they are 4 versions behind... And security is always being improved.

  • I haven't in the past had any difficult distinguishing between PHP and PostNuke, but you have to know the products well. Even base installations with no third party modules have subtle differences...

  • Yea i can imaging this to be the correct forum to post this question, and in time i will surely my self be able to see the difference, but for now i called for expert oppinions and was somewhat surprised to be taken so serious, these kind of "expert" forums tend to be somewhat l33t and the admins have lost intrest long time ago. I my self have been in such situations (was one of the founder of quakenet (irc network)) and sat all day on the operator channel spewing sarcasm at newbies til one day i quit and have since looked back at this and it sends chills down my spines, phew, in short CHEERS and thanks for helping a newbie out. !! icon_biggrin
