I was wondering if there is a private messages hack/mod for pnforums 2.6
it would be much appreciated to find out where it is if there is one

I think there's a plugin that will put a link to send a PM. Look at how the Members list does it's PM link.

Check out my dwAphrodite theme for pnForum. The pnforum_user_viewtopic.html template has a link to the stock PN Messages module.
