  • Hi:

Dunno if this have been posted already but, the change in the www.postnuke.com web site is attractive. Congratulations to those who work on it. I guess it will be soon ported to the forum.

This is probably one of some changes to make PostNuke stand on its own and have the space it deserves regarding CMS.

  • Really? I guess I'll have to go get my old 800x600 monitor from the basement... anyway beauty is in the eye of the beholder and I have nothing more to say about the new design and it's navigation.

  • I agree it looks way more attractive ;) well done
  • I'm quite happy to see the new look for the site. Nice work.

  • Looks like we copied mamboserver.com -- not a bad thing, but that is what it reminds me of.
  • Doesn't really look enough like it to make that assertation, no more so than say, the old site looked like my Church's old website because it was 3 columns.

  • So, the old site looked like your church's old website? icon_lol

Changing the "home page" was needed to make PN appear more contemporary and was done, I assume, to appeal to the commercial user. It'll also generate more page views due to the fact that it doesn't have the breadth of information we're used to from the pnNavigator. This is a good/bad thing, depending upon your perspective.

While it's not the home page, the pnNavigator page is still there. My advice to those of us, who like to scan a single page for all new developments, is to bookmark news.postnuke.com/in…p?module=Navigation and enter the site via that bookmark.

Enough with this...congrats to all on the .8 milestone release. :D

  • My problem with hitting the new page was that they did not include a simple path to the navigator page. I had to hunt around until I stumbled onto the correct link... news.postnuke.com/index.php?module=Navigation

So, my statement is that it looks nice and contemporary, but ignored us oldtimers in its creation. Add a link to the Navigator and I will be happy. <grin></grin>
  • I think, at a minimum, and Drak can tell you I've been very vocal behind the scenes about it, we need the core project news headlines displayed on the main page. I didn't have time to spend thinking about it when the initial process started, otherwise I would have suggested a layout that would have been much like we have now, with main news headlines on the right site "above the fold" and feeds of new/updated releases in the themes/blocks/modules categories on the bottom.

  • Warrick, I think one of us needs to get glasses because the new site looks nothing like mamboserver.com and wasn't even used for inspiration. People also say our idea of the NOC is copied from mamboforge, but we were the first to use gForge many years ago ;)

  • I didn't say exactly -- I just said it reminded me of it.
  • Just a quick note, you will notice that a lot of high traffic sites still use the fixed design. Its pretty popular. I find making a theme completely 100% width is a huge pain because small paragraphs, etc look horrible because they widen out so much they look like they are only one sentence.

I really like the new design, but I do think it needs a bit more contrast when it comes to text. A

As far as ideas for news for the frontpage. I would just do a block kind of in the middle of the page, with the 20 newest article links. I would either have a seperate block for security notices or just highlight the security notices in red in the regular news links block. We definately dont want to add TO MUCH content to the front page, but links to the newest articles is definately a must. I think the newest articles for each section/category should display in some type of different format as well. Kind of a featured article type thing.

If PN finally developed a quality article module that had preformatted templates available for particular types of announcements, I think this would really help with consistency, etc. I think back in the day EZCMS did this. But i would actually have the submit form/fields be different as well per predefined type of article.
  • I believe the idea on the new sites is to base it off of Pagesetter which is, pretty close to what you are talking about ;)

  • I still havent found a good user friendly use for Pagesetter. It takes so much effort to get something setup well. (Im talking for enterprise use)
  • I'm not fond of GUppy, not sure why it was added to the core, I'd much rather layout the input forms with pnRender, not XML. But the newest version of Guppy, which I hope the core Guppy is inline with, at least has the ability to add text to the forms.
