I know you guys are probably still working on it since it seems it has only been up a short time, but here are my comments about the new design.
It certainly is cleaner and more eye-pleasing, but right now it is more difficult (!!) to find information. I personally would not have used javascript for the navigation bar since it doesn't degrade gracefully for somebody with javascript off, and since the same effect can be achieved with CSS anyway.
The news section is a nightmare. All of the text blends together in a way that is not easy to focus on. I think the security and main news categories need to be seperated like they were before so they can be more easily seen, perhaps with even a small headline block on the home page.
The developer section is very linear and probably could use some organizational figures or boxes to better organize and prioritize the information. On the downloads page you commit the cardinal sin of making a link that says "here" only instead of using informative text. There are also problems throughout with misaligned images.
I think there could be more use of artistic color elements since the black/light blue/light green text pattern is a bit dull. There could be things on the download page in particular like a nice download icon that draws attention to the download link.
It also seems that the left side is very empty now. :P Are those supposed to be per-section links or is it meant to show global links on every page?
There are also some trivial problems but I won't bother to list them all since you're probably still working on getting the site up.
Cheers

Not really much to say about the look or size.
But I do notice one of the featured sites is a BLATANT rip-off of the T-Mobile site and even the logo..

don't get this one - since the it-shop is the shopping portal of 'deutsche telekom' and t-mobile is the mobile phone part what's the problem with the CI?
anyway: usability and accessibility of the new site will be enhanced for sure - feedback welcome

Well, nice colors, finally some art work - looks attractive.
However, why the *+#+# do we present ourselfes with one of the most bad practices on the net - fixed width "optimized" for monitors NOBODY uses any more?
Greetings,
Chris

Maybe cuz we didn't know that, just saw that it was similar but not the same...

My monitor may be at 1024x768, but often times, my browser is at 800x600, I just think it needs to be centered in the window.

I have no problem with other people wanting their browser set differently from mine. Or buying bigger or smaller or more monitors than I.
But I would prefer that these things, whenever possible, be left to the viewer.

Welcome to the world of design, what level to design to. Sometimes, fluid layout works, sometimes it doesn't. For whatever reason, it was decided that fluid was not desireable, so the next best option is to design to the common denominator.

..consistency. people may not use the size any more, but it's the best way to ensure every visitor is seeing the same thing every time. it's the same reason McDonald's sells so many McWhatsits. -

looks like everyone has skipped over all of the issues in my orig post
as for the fixed width, it would be better if it was centered then
the js issue is a blocker imo since it is an accessibility issue
sorry if it seems like im being a critic for a critic's sake, i know there is probably somebody working on this (i hope) but there are plenty of serious presentations issues to deal with -

It's all being dealt with, the people in charge of that area of things got all that feedback before you even made your post I think, I'd have to go back and check the time stamps on the e-mails on the list :)

Hi Maggy,
Thanks for your comments/feedback. It is very constructive and as everything some things get missed. I've noted some of the updates below and things we are still working on.
maggy
It certainly is cleaner and more eye-pleasing, but right now it is more difficult (!!) to find information. I personally would not have used javascript for the navigation bar since it doesn't degrade gracefully for somebody with javascript off, and since the same effect can be achieved with CSS anyway.
That's being updated to a CSS solution.

The news section is a nightmare. All of the text blends together in a way that is not easy to focus on. I think the security and main news categories need to be seperated like they were before so they can be more easily seen, perhaps with even a small headline block on the home page.
Good suggestion about seperating the categories and even having the small block on the main page makes sense.
maggy
The developer section is very linear and probably could use some organizational figures or boxes to better organize and prioritize the information.
Have any suggestions or examples? And if you create a layout written to strict XHTML then it would be appreciated.
maggy
On the downloads page you commit the cardinal sin of making a link that says "here" only instead of using informative text. There are also problems throughout with misaligned images.
Yea, I saw that then of course didn't fix it before it went live -- so thanks for pointing it out and I've fixed it. Note, the image alignment has also been corrected.
maggy
I think there could be more use of artistic color elements since the black/light blue/light green text pattern is a bit dull. There could be things on the download page in particular like a nice download icon that draws attention to the download link.
Agreed, I'll look into adding more graphical elements.
maggy
It also seems that the left side is very empty now. :P Are those supposed to be per-section links or is it meant to show global links on every page?
Things are definitely evolving so we may be adding more per-section links when it makes sense. Do you have any specific ideas or suggestions?
Again, thanks for the feedback and suggestions. We're not done with many things but it is a step in the right direction and progress is being made on all fronts. :)
Regards,
Vanessa

I really hope PN goes away from using multisites for a single site layout. Its basically being used as a hack to overcome some of the limitations of PN. I saw the use of it a couple years ago, but i dont see the need anymore. If there is, then its an issue that needs to be looked into the needed functionality of the PN core.
