Opterons and other developments re CPUS...  Bottom

  • Hi:

Well, I think these high-end CPUS (dual core) are now becoming available. What effect on web computing these could have?? So a system with two dual core CPUS in fcat have the equivalent to four cpus, right?

I mean, How a Web Server, PHP Language could shown the increase in computing power?? That given the server have a decent Internet provider...

IMO, This is a milestone, not only we already have 64 bit computing available (Linux camp) BUT 64 bit on dual CPU is amazing.

In summary, Should we expect pages to render faster?? If someone find any link with additional information please post it.

    Later

I very much doubt that the bottleneck on any webserver is the processor rendering pages...
  • SCSI drives make a huge difference to the database processing. We have one machine at hostnuke munching over 10 million postnuke SQL queries a day without breaking a sweat. It's a dual opeteron, 8GB RAM with 15k rpm SCSI RAID5 (LSI Logic).
