Xanthia vs Autotheme  Bottom

  • I prefer AutoTheme ;)

Get the Revolutionary AutoTheme HTML Theme System! Currently for Zikula, PHP-Nuke, CRE Loaded, osCommerce and Wordpress!
  • More and More I use Postnuke I see that most of what I need is in the program itself. No need of other modules. And when it comes to themes, Extralite is the best thing around. So easy to customize. I have used AutoTheme, webvidia, xantia and all have problems with one or other theme, and you have to start looking into the code of other modules to
configure sometimes very basic stuff. If you want a theme that does just what you want Extralite is the thing, just configure it at your liking. When it comes to modules "Sections" is a beauty. All the time wasted looking into Pagesetter, htmlpages, and others, when Sections a module that has always been there, does just what you want.
I think this is a man thing, we always want the biggest motor, the most powerfull one, even if it is just for driving 1 mile to work. Now does Postnuke come with a gallery?

Yeah, it's a man thing thinking that what you want is what others want. It's great that you can do what you need with what you have, but just because you can does not mean the rest of us can. In the case of modifying ExtraLite, I hope you mean you created a duplicate of ExtraLite and modified that, because otherwise, you are playing with fire, as EL is your fall back theme, the one that really shouldn't be touched, it's what you go back to in a pinch when you break your theme. Also, most people find it easier to modify layout in an HTML based system like Xanthia and AutoTheme, you have much more flexibility of what you do between the HTML based layout and the Smarty Plugins.

As to Sections, great that you like it, personally, I think it sucks, because of how it gathers data, you're limited as to how you layout the out put, and it's hard to force some input requirements that one may have. I'll take Pagesetter and it's learning curve over Sections and it's inflexibility any day.

  • I think Sections sucks too. It may be one of Postnuke's greastest flaws. I'd like to see a Pagesetter light or something of that nature replace sections.

Light would definately be the key word there. =P

Id like to just see something simple like how pages are created in wordpress or content in joomla.
  • Yup agree with that - or maybe Drupal. Drupal has a nice "add content" function.
  • Just remember guys not everyone needs a mega advanced feauture, sometimes you just want to have some tables and thats it. Nothing more or less, and the end all the PostNuke sites look so much the same. Sections is great when you only want to present info, straight up, no complications and funcy stuff.

Extralite might be also a risky thing to do, but when you have tried theme after theme with AutoTheme or webvidia or xantia and see that the blocks get some kind of life of their own when in different pages it is not so cool. I need something stable, something that wont give me surprises, extralite hopefully doesnt.
    Thanks for the comments guys
  • True, but your statement read as grandious all encompasing truths, not what works best for you. That's what I was hitting upon, and at the same time, illustrating first, the foolishness of touching ExtraLite beyond color/graphic changes. And second, why a lot of people don't use sections.
