Graphical Security Code for PostNuke 0.761  Bottom

Go to page 1 - 2 [+1]:

  • PluginSoft.com has released a new enhancement to PostNuke that provides an additional layer of security for your PostNuke 0.761 sites. The enhancement overwrites core PostNuke files, so please backup the affected files before installing. You must also have access to your MySQL Postnuke database to run the insert SQL script. Before you run the SQL script, please remember to update the SQL script's $PREFIX with your postnuke table prefix. You can find the Graphical Security Code Enhancement under PluginSoft.com Downloads.
  • Thanks for this enhancement... I've been looking for something like this a few months because I've got lots of "strange" users that might be robots.

I've already tested it under PN .760 and it works ok!

    Greetings.
  • Your welcome paranoik. Thanks for the feedback.
  • Very cool, Be sure to post this as news to Postnuke Modules, although technically not a module, this is where people will look for such a feature.

    Great job.

  • This would be nice to have for other modules as well such as Recommed_Us, Web_Links, and Submit_News. Then there is whatever contact form you're using. In short anywhere the "bots" can...and will...strike.

Wouldn't it be nice if it were a module that we could hook to the above?

  • Hi!:

I recently installed the module and showed me some errors an installation, but solved with some help, by inserting manually.

But, Nou the "module" is active, I logged out from Admin login, and try to log in again, I need to write the code in the box, but no code shows, I can not see the Picture of it, and it is practically impossible to log in.

Can any one help me please?

    Thanks in advance

Ok again. I don´t know why , but at my localhost it doesn´t works, but, at my hosting works excellent..

    Bye.!
  • Thanks for the link rixride, and the feedback.

I agree Slugger, that would be sweet!

Cosmocrator, I suggest you provide a little more detailed information about your localhost setup if you want people to help troubleshoot your failed installation. Just a tip, this is not a module! It is an enhancement that overwrites core module and block files. Do you know how your PHP is configured on your localhost?
  • Hmmm. What type of hook would it be if you made it a hook? Seems like it should operate more like pnSecGenAuthKey() so you could call it from any form and verify it on the backend. I wouldn't know how to implement it, since it would need to generate a code and an image, but it is functionally similar.
  • It doesn't work now with my PN .762 :? It doesn't show the graphic code... any ideas?
  • Ok... it doesn't show up on my site because my server doesn't allow the imagettftext() function ;)
  • Update your PHP configuration if it is your server. Now, that I have upgraded pluginsoft.com to .762 I will update the seccode package for this new release. It should be out by the end of the weekend.
  • The new Graphical Security Code package built from and for PostNuke 0.7.6.2 is now available from PluginSoft.com. See the original news article on PostNuke Modules for details on the new features.
  • Two issues on my test site (not accessible from external internet):
1 - I find that the graphics images are very hard to read. It would be nice if there was a way to click on them to get a larger image. Visually impared people would be completely locked out.

2 - When attempting to register, and failing to match the security code, the following text is printed verbatim in the center block.

    Code

<div ><span class="pn-title">Your security code doesn't match. Please be sure to enter the exact numbers that appear in the graphic.</div></span><br /><div ><span class="pn-normal"><a href="user.php?op=register&module=NewUser">[Back]</a></div></span>

The test site is a virgin pn0.762 installation, with only this modification applied. This happened with both the default ExtraLight theme and PostNukeSilver.

I agree - can something be done about the visibility of the graphics image? - my members are having a hard time reading the code.

I tried changing the .png but that gives me an error.

I really feel that the image should be changed and also it could be larger - even i have problems seeing it and I'm afraid I may lose people signing up because of it.

However I can't just deactivate it and let the spammers in - catch 22!
  • Thanks for the feedback. Let me see what I can do.
