Installing PostNuke on Windows?  Bottom

  • xampp can be run from a thumb drive - there are specific instructions on how to do it in the install instructions.
  • Thanks for the suggestion. I haven't tried xampp, it looks like a well developed and mature product from the specs on their website. They seem to have been working on this for a few years unlike myself and it shows. They have packages for Linux, Windows, and Macs, while I only have one for windows.

If I wasn't developing my own WAMP installer, I would consider using xampp. Does xampp come with PostNuke? What about phpESP? PluginSoft includes both of these PHP applications. I see they come with a lot of other cool goodies.

I like the idea of including other software, I have considered including BIND in PluginSoft and probably will in the future. I am not sure about encryption software like OpenSSL and OpenSSH because I am just not sure of the laws surrounding the distribution of said packages.

Anyways, thanks for the suggestion. Cheers.

  • You might want to look at ReactorServer as well. It comes with *cough* PHP-Nuke *cough* but once ReactorServer is setup you can delete the offending CMS.
  • DankStreet,

I've recently been put in the position of having only a PII/266 (128 RAM) running win98 to work with, and PluginSoft Gamma does not work in that enviroment. It installs fine but simply won't run. I don't expect you'd want to support this platform but I just thought you should know that.

I had limited luck with xampp but it's faster for me to ftp edited files to the server and refresh the live test site than load it localy.

  • This is a little off-topic, but given your low-processing power situation, have you considered Linux, Topiatic? It'll have Apache, PHP, and MySQL included, and you can probably count on decent performance. If you still need Windows, as many people do, you can dual boot. I kind of doubt Wine is an option for you.

  • Topiatic,

Thank you for the feedback. I will update the system requirements documentation to NT kernel only until I figure out what the deal is on Windows 95/98.
