OK...this is probably the craziest site I've built yet. I noticed with all the craze that is going on over those pixel ad sites that are cloning The Million Dollar Home Page by the thousands, that they are all missing the point. The web is driven by content, content and content. Nobody is making in money in them because nobody wants to just go stare at advertising. Then I thought...hmmmm...what if you were to COMBINE the pixel ads with content. I've been a standup comic for the past 25 years, so creating something crazy and funny was not that difficult. I went public with this site last night. It's not quite finished...still tweaking some stuff...but apparently this site is now creating quite the buzz in all the pixel ad site forums and directories. I've received a ton of emails today and the response has really surprised me. All I really did was implement some goofy pixel ads within a PostNuke site, but it is so different from all the gazillion other pixel ad sites that it's getting a bit of notoriety. I've been told that this is what the true future of pixel ads might become...not just a huge page filled with ads. I dunno...I didn't create the site to make a fortune. I created the site for fun and to see if I could do it in PostNuke.
Here's what it's built on:
PostNuke .761
3rd Party Modules:
Advanced Polls
AutoTheme
CmodsLinker
EZComments
htmlpages
pnBloodhound
pncPayPal
pnFlashGames
PNphBB2
postguestbook
tRSSNews
vpContact
The theme was one I built from scratch
The pixel script is Million Dollar Script ver 1.5.9
The radio is Shoutcast on it's own dedicated server
As I said, I didn't create this to make a fortune. I just wanted to create a pixel ad site that was very different. The challenge of blending the two, pixel ads and PostNuke was the fun part.
Enjoy

Now if you sold pixles to your body parts and had to have them painted for a year like those casino people then that would be interesting otherwise what really differentiates this from the othe pixel sites. You would have to make a grid and some way of quickly applying the makeup every morning so that you wouldn't be spending hours. You could chare more for eyelids since they are the only "blinking" text (haha I mad emy self laugh hehe).
Obviously the face would be worth the most. You would have to figure out how much to charge per pixel etc...
Forget it. I'm going to patent this as a novel business plan. -

Actually, it may look like all the gazillion other pixel ad site that are popping up, but it has an entirely different business model. Most pixel ad sites are failing miserably right now, because they don't have a clue to what made the Million Dollar Home Page a success. it wasn't the pixel ad, but the content, just like any other web site. The content in this case, was Alex Tew, NOT the pixel ad. Pixel ads are nothing but advertising, however all of these pixel ad sites are treating it as content. That is why they are failing. A media company wouldn't produce a magazine, tv, movie or website that had absolutely no content, but was nothing but advertising...yet this is EXACTLY what every pixel ad site is doing right now, because everybody thinks it was the pixel ad that created the success...so they have all slapped up a page of advertising thinking everybody is going to flock to their site and make them a million bucks because they think this is what did it for Alex Tew. It ain't a gonna happen.
My background is in marketing. I recognized this flaw in all of the pixel ad sites from square one. I posted an analogy in another NG, but this is briefly what happened with Alex Tew and the Million Dollare Home Page. You can read it here and get a little more insight into my background, ARTICLE]
If you check my site, you will notice that it may looks like the defacto pixel ad site, but the pixel ads are being used for what they actually are in reality, advertising. It is the content; the radio staion, the forums, the games, the articles from pro standups, the comedy, etc. that is the backbone of the site. The pixel ads are being used creatively to ad to the theme, but they are not the primary reason somebody would come to the site. They complement the content, where as most other pixel ad sites, the pixel ads are the ONLY content.
Alex Tew had one major flaw in his site. There is no room for expansion. Once he sold out his pixels...that was it. He will never generate any revenue from pixel ads on that site again. Now my site, I'm not trying to gross a million dollars. I'm trying to see if this business model can produce about $50,000 a year in revenue. Because the pixel ads expire after a set time, I can resell those ads every year. If my business model is successful, than it means I can create other similar sites, all with a nice, steady, growing revenue for many years.
This is why I'm receiving so much hooplah over in the pixel ad world. My site has been awarded pixel ad site of the week in one tracking site. The software company that published the pixel as software now features my site on their home page as an example. Buy My Body Parts is the most used search term in the all the pixel tracking sites. I've been approached to contribute articles and podcast interviews...all of this...and the silly site ain't even 4 days old...and not even finished, nor have I even begun marketing to the general public.
I didn't invent squat as everybody thinks I have. I just approached pixel ads for what they are...advertising...NOT CONTENT. Basic business school 101.
Time will tell if I'm correct in my business model...but it sure has been a blast so far.

I guess that you don't subscribe to McLuhans axiom that the medium is the message. It's the advertising that is the content and the stories and all the other filler are simply the delivery medium. -

If that were the case, then every pixel ad site since Alex Tew's would have not only equaled it, but surpassed it, as the world flocked to this new medium. But that hasn't happened. Why? Because the medium that was the message was about a young kid who actually might pocket a million dollars. The closer he came to that goal, the greater the world frenzy became. It was a publicists dream come true. It was like watching a 100-1 shot win the Kentucky Derby. As Alex became world famous, more traffic visited his site. Traffic attracts advertisers. They bought his pixels. He made more money. That attracted more traffic. Madison Ave. 101 class in advertising principles. Traffic drives advertising revenue. Most pixel ad sites are trying to get advertising to drive traffic. -

It was good for a laugh.
I had actually been trying to come up with a way to integrate Pixel ads into my site. Not a full blown pixel site, but something along the lines of what you have. In the end, I decided I had too many other projects on my plate. -
