This module is better at EZComments. Why?

YOu could have saved some trouble by adding simple words to this:

IMHO (in my honest opinion) This module offers more than EZComments. Why?

I have created a few modules that (IMHO) improve on those currently offered in the core release. While most have appreciated my contribution, some have decided to attack me - mostly with comments aluding to the fact that I should be collaborating on the existing core code, I am wasting my time, the core stuff is better(always better), yadda, yadda...

(IMHO)Many think of Open Source projects as socialist type undertakings where the direction should be dictated by the ruling committee. When someone comes along in contravention of this (IMHO) people get upset, sometimes downright miffed! I have had ignorant individuals attack my code even before they have looked at it LOL - This is in my opinion the highest form of ignorance and disingenuity...

Anyway the thing to remember is the fact that the author will always gain something from coding, a greater knowledge on how things work, an insight on how to do things better in the future. (IMHO) Better to think of derisive comments as a challenge, a challenge to make things better in the future, a challenge to silence the nay-sayers LOL

One thing it taught me was the fact that PostNuke is not the only project out there, so if you are not really happy here start to look at some other projects worth contributing to ;)

I won't tell you your module is a waste of time, but I do think it's unfortunate that you've undertaken a project without full research of what else is available, and also it seems with very little knowledge of how the development of PostNuke works.

I can't download the module as I don't have an account at post-nuke.pl, and I can't see the demo because of a Bandwidth exceeded error, so I can't comment on the code quality. However, from what you've written there's nothing in your module that isn't in EZComments, and the only advantage is that the upgrade path is supposedly easier - but using the old database table imposes other limits on what you can do.

I'm also worried that as you don't appear to have a full knowledge of what PostNuke .8 is aiming for that your module isn't going to achieve everything that is required of a .8 comments module.

However, there's always a benefit to writing code (even in my case where sometimes it is never finished!), so as Lobos says, if nothing else you've achieved a better knowledge of PostNuke and a comments implementation that suits your purpose.

Yes thats right, the main thing is not to get too attached to your code and be well prepared to drop the whole thing if it becomes redundant or just plain "the wrong way to do things".

Try not to be cruel to your code though, this may get you reported...

Plan to write 2 versions: 1 to learn, get it wrong and throw away, the 2nd one apply the lessons learned and to get it right ... icon_smile
