  • Just tried to install the latest version of pnphpbb2 for a clients project and this comes up:

You are using a AutoTheme generated Theme with this account or site.
There are known issues when installing PNphpBB while using AutoTheme.
Please switch your account/site to a NON AutoTheme Theme, perform the Install/Upgrade/Conversion/Removal then switch back to your current theme.

    Thank you
    The PNphpBB Group

    LOL

I think it would read better:

Please switch your forum to pnForum - the fully integrated forum for postnuke which is maintained and supported by a Postnuke Lead Developer.

    Thank you

Anyway I feel sorry for the AutoTheme devs that spend time creating matching pnphpbb2 templates for their themes and supporting pnphpbb2 - I never did this, but I know of many that did.

Oh well time to them to support pnForum I guess!

  • I'll be watching this thread. I think we're gonna see some nice fireworks
  • Maybe it's time we give a break to the PNphpBB2 guys don't you think ?

We've been overbashing them lately and it's kind of getting ridiculous.

As pnForum sold as I am, PNphpBB2 guys did gave a phpBB forum for a long time and was the best solution there was after the XForum lost and the immature php_bb 1.3...

So yes... PNphpBB2 is loosing it at the moment, but I don't think it is doing any good to create this kind of topic.

Remember also that many are still or still want to use PNphpBB2... The attitude toward PNphpBB we had lately was more than enough to make them flee with a real bad feeling on how we act.

I don't think that the people using PNphpBB want the PNphpBB2 guys to give that way.

    wink
  • If somebody installing a PostNuke site can't switch theme for the installation of a module, then perhaps he should be doing something else for living wink

You just have to change for installation. After installation you can use AutoTheme theme.

But if that is too difficult perhaps you should do what you can do, like some dinkum bullshit talk icon_lol

CN, Stopping the module initialising because people happen to be using AutoTheme is likely to have this effect... a simple warning would be ok, wouldn't it?

Anyway I don't care, like you I go for pnForum as well - and people using AutoTheme will need to follow this path as well - basically the pnphpbb2 group has let the many people using AutoTheme know that they can't provide a solution and therefore should find an alternative or change thier theme... I wonder which path they will follow...

Just out of curiosity: is there a way to export pnphpbb2 data to pnForum?

If there are really issues unfixed yet, better stop the init instead of expecting dumb users to follow the warning and let them brake their site...... Since no one read anything anymore, I would have probably done the same thing. (Might have fixed those issues first though icon_lol )

Not that you are the dumb... only the ... aw heck... whatever, you got my meaning :)

When initializing, there is an import function if I remember correctly depending on the tables names and if pnForum detects the tables...

No, I think I am - I seemed to stall at this part of the message, the rest didn't register:

Anyway this is the best way for them to do it, simple and to the point...

  • There is a conversion from PNphpBB to pnForum, but if you've got alot of posts you might have to run it through shell.

Anyway, PNphpBB serves a purpose. There's so much in PNphpBB that isn't in pnForum (for a start, pnForum doesn't support sub categories) that means they serve two different markets.

    No worries.

No need to eat your hat. But, if already did, you can get a new one from http://www.eql.com.au/hatmain.htm

  • I use both and neither I see as having an advantage as they really target different markets.
PnphpBB2 is more geared toward full blown community driven sites while pnForum is perfect for sites that the forums aren't front and center on and for those that want the simplicity of it.

Both are easy to theme for as well.
