Family Sites - Permissions  Bottom

  • I'd like to get some feedback on how others that are using Postnuke for family sites have their permissions and user registration setup.

I went looking for PN-xuser but looks like that has gone by the board.

It would be nice to be able to approve members and allow access to certain function to family only, although I can see how it can be done through permissions - but it seems like a lot of messing around.

How have others approached this kind of setup?
  • Well at 1st I tried allowing family to register themselves... but it turned out to be a bad idea.. i kept getting dupe accounts as some would not remember their passwords and stuff..

so now I removed the self-reg and I create accounts as needed and control access to the forums via groups (family group membership allows viewing of the extra forums as compared to regular users)

I setup gallery to only allow myslef and another person to add/edit pics everyone else just views..

other then that no other contraols were added (at least not any I can think of off hand)

Should not be that difficult - create groups of users ie - admin level 1 - level 2 - level 3 or whatever you want to call them, then with the permissions schema grant each group as much or as little access as you want. Doing it that way you can grant access right down to specific modules and even functions of the modules if you wish to go that far.

once you have your groups and their respective access setup it would then be easy to assign new family members to whatever group you want.

one site i do work with we have four different groups of users with different levels of access. it can get confusing so i would suggest writing it down on paper and graph it out for ease of use later.
