I took a quick look at the coding and its a bit beyond me to get into without breaking...
So can EZComments be made to include the current story topic automatically into the subject field? Of course it can be edited by the person leaving the comment if they so wish. Guess same thing would go if someone is responding to another comment - put that comments topic into the subject field.

Okay while I am at it for this module - on my Xanthia theme on the index part of the article (summary) it includes a link to post comments:
Problem is it leads to the standard comments module. How do I make it point to EZComments?

First question - no, not easily since a hook module knows nothing of what it's hooked too. Think about the case where EZComments is not hooked to the news module but reviews or Pagesetter or ... or ...
second question - get an updated funcs.php from cvs.

Sadly the funcs.php did not work in my case...
Replacing the file had no effect positive or negative.

The first patch only touched the preformat comments based stuff. I'll test and prepare a second update to sort out the remaining news tags.
