Web 2.0, folksonomy, tagging, flexible RSS, FOAF...  Bottom

  • These seem to be concepts useful for CMS as social softwares. What plans does PostNuke have (if any) for such emerging standards?

On a related topic, check out http://www.ning.com Pretty cool...

  • agreed... this is very interesting and would like to know something about postnuke developers and their opinion about web2.0 and all of that :)
  • I've been working on some related modules - technorati tagging, web services (soap), blogging (trackback etc.), flickr etc. See my site and the projects list (e.g. pnWebServices) on noc.postnuke.com for some early output from this work.

From the general development perspective PN is a framework that already provides most (if not all) of the basic capabilities required to provide these types of solutiions so 3rd parties can already working in these areas. So what more encouragement do you need - get coding!

  • SOAP support is definately something that would be extremely useful to PN. Which will be a great step towards a using PN as a framework instead of just looking it as a tool for creating personal websites, etc.
  • I'm on the verge of opening at least one or two instances of PN cloaked as Openstar for the purpose of encouraging social entrepreneurship.

At this moment, there are a couple (or more probably) modules that have to be hacked into place. Typically the sort of feature desired is a cross between a standard, highly structured module with individualized features such as Simpy has for public/private bookmarks or "Friend of a Friend" (FOAF), available skills/knowledge and interests in volunteering, etc.

So far in my search for reliable software, I've noted that the folks at BarnRaiser.org (in Sweden) have some very good concepts that are social networking oriented. Particularly their "AroundME" thingy. But much of it duplicates core PN/OS (i.e. users, groups, perms, etc).

Keep me in mind if anyone has ideas they're working on and want a bridge to thought-leaders in the social entrepreneurship domain. I have some contact/resources in that domain, but they won't/can't speak "geek".

PS...For an interesting short essay on social networking, I recommend reading Tom's "sample" blog.

I havent seen any work on soap yet, is anything moving ahead with this? It would really help me out a lot and im sure others as well.
  • The soap module is in the pnwebservices cvs and is basically functional. Work on .8x has taken up most of my recent time so i've not moved it on further than the initial port.

  • ok, great, didnt think of checking the cvs for some odd reason, was just checking your available files.

Im hoping to use soap with sugar to exchange info as sugarcrm already has soap support. I have also enhanced to pnSugar module that I will be releasing soon as well.
