Hi guys... my name is Aram from www.HealingHQ.com - I had Amazone installed for the first two months - but a few days ago I noticed that our homepage was seriously slow loading.. so much so that I was freaking out - afraid we were losing visitors... so we played process of elimination to find out the culprit and it was Amazone - the blocks on the homepage column (which are now removed) and the Amazone store in general (which is no longer linked to my main menu) -- can someone shed some light on the situation - what happened? Why is Amazone slowing down my site or rather why has it become deathly slow loading.. to the point that I had to de-activate the blocks on homepage and unlink the main store...
thx,
Aram
PS - could it be a memory problem or something like that?
http://www.healinghq.com/AmaZone+home.phtml is the URL of my main Amazone store - if someone could take a look to see why its loading so slowly - thx all!

You need to understand the process : AmaZone module get all its data from the Amazon Webservice. If all is working as expected, to avoid contacting Amazon 1 time for each product at each page request, Amazon results are cached by the module in the database.
The problem is that each page contain links to other related or similar items.
On my main site http://www.vedrine.net, I have an AmaZone center block on all pages. Recently with a lot of bots (picsearch proved to be the worst of all eating Gigabytes of my bandwidth) crawling my website my AmaZone table has grown to tens of thousands of records, and each records contain the complete description of an Amazon product as an XML string !! This caused a lot of troubles : table corruption, slow page loading, ...
I was forced :
- to add a lot of disallow to my robots.txt
- to ban some unfriendly robots that were not obeying my robots.txt file
- to frequently purge amazon cache table and unfeatured items table
This seems to have corrected the situation somewhat
The long term solution is that AmaZone module's administration panel include a complete administration of products type and nodes so that you can limit the items displayed. Currently an unsmart bot can think that your website has a webpage for each Amazon item (for this reason if you search for "aquarium de jmv", Google will return more than 7000 results, most of them being Amazon items !!

I guess I am still trying to figure out if the problem is my database or if the problem was with Amazon and will get better - or do I have to do something to get this fixed?

PS - what should the 'max cache time' be set to in the preferences? I think mine was set to 3600 and I changed it to 1000 - not sure why.. I think i was trying to figure out if that helped fix things.. -
