I'm configuring a new Nuke site, .750, nothing too strange. I've asked about a half-dozen people to test it out. One user is having login problems. I suspect the problem is related to her computer or settings but I'd like to see if others have heard of this, and hopefully provide her a solution (as she's VIP to the project).

The signup goes fine, and she's emailed her password. She goes back to the site and logs in. She gets the "Logging you in -- please wait" message. She says the screens stays there for 15 seconds, then goes to the home page - but she's NOT logged in. She gets no error about an incorrect user/password (she sent me a screen grab). She copy/pasted the password to be sure she got it right.

She's on WinXP Home (MS IE Vers 6.0.2800.1106.xpsp2.030422-133 on Windows XP Home Edition, Vers 2002 SP1). She's tried two signups, same problem. She tried from another computer in the house and that worked fine.

The meta refresh tag in the "please wait" page is only two seconds. So I don't know why she's getting a longer delay, nor why it isn't logging her in.

    Any thoughts are appreciated. Thanks.

IS her browser blocking all javascript? Any warning bar message in IE?

Is her time and date set correctly on her computer? Sometimes, time conflicts allow a PostNuke cookie to expire immedietly - timezone offsets in PostNuke not correct, etc.

Try relaxing the security - or have her click REMEMBER ME to see if this is the problem.

Also, check in the browser to see if a cookie is being set by PostNuke for the site.

Problem solved. The user had changed their Cookie prefs to not allow them for any site. (Never mind the signup screen instructions that says this site uses cookies...) She added the site "as a Managed Website which IE will "Always Allow" cookies (Internet Options... -> Privacy -> Web Sites -> Edit... Per Site Privacy Actions)." (I don't use IE so I'm just copying her response verbatim.)

If I run into this again I may hack together a cookie tester to alert the user when they are disabled.

IF so, make it available - such code would be useful to a lot of people - and possibly in the core icon_smile Although .760 does have some warnings about cookies for users (on the sign up screens and such as you mention).

I'm experimenting the same problem... I had 3 user stuck on the "Loggin in..." page and then - after 15 seconds - redirected to the homepage without being, effectively logged in. They all used IE6 on Windows xp (2 Home, 1 Pro)...

If you think it's something with cookies I could try to warn about it... but your "cookie tester" would make it better :) share it when it's ready!
    thanx
