  • I have no other solution than to rollback to 0.726

I wanted to migrate a client to 0.760 RC4, but there are too much difficulties doing so. Here they are:

    - Admin panel unreliable: I keep getting errors like "unable to access Blocks modules (function "update")". Today the new error is that the link "add new block" just spits out a "unable to display page"...
Because of this error, I tried to deactivate & reinstall the blocks admin module, but it doesn't want to be reactivated, because the creation of the table failed => this bug should be corrected.

There are just too much bugs related to the admin panel in 0.760

    - No content management modules available:
    * Pagesetter, while being a great idea and also already great functionality, is still very much beta. It is currently usable as "enhanced news module", but the other planned functionalities are buggy. Pagesetter does not work out-of-the-box, one has to go into endless template editing and wondering why this and that does not work as expected. Pagesetter will be great, but needs more time.
    * Content Express seemed to have died with version 1.2.5, which does not work well with PN 0.75 and above. Version 1.2.8 is under development, but the CVS version is still unusable on a client's site.

My client is still using EZCMS on his 0.726 site.
There is currently no replacement for it.
  • moved to support
  • I have upgraded 4 sites so far from 0.726 to 0.750 to 0.760 with no admin panel issues...
  • I haven't seen any admin panel issues either.
  • Humpff....

Same here.... I had less problems with my 760 RC1 to 4 united than all my time with 0.726...

    Go figure...

But you know what they say : "The problem never comes from the computer... always from the user !" He he !
    wink

Sorry... but with that thread title, you had that one coming. icon_lol

Manarak, you seemed to have lots of problem (based on your last messages here and there) that others don't have... Instead of using this kind of title or saying things like "it doesn't work like 726 was"...

Be more precise on the problems you have so we can work on confirming them and correcting them.

By the way... You tried a RC... all RCs were released for debug purpose. You had your share of problems apparently to remind you that.

0.726 lacks several VERY important security fix...
Last stable version is still 0.750
  • I know Chestnut... But it is just so frustrating!

I logged the Blocks Module activation/deactivation bug into the NOC.

It appears that the admin panel is easily broken. One just needs to upload a module it doesn't like, and bam!
Somehwere a random function does not work anymore (like 'add block' when the latest ContentExpress is installed).

Security is the main reason why I want so much to upgrade.

Yes, I post in a bit provocative way - but there is also the fact that I need DAYS to upgrade a client's 0.726 site to 0.760, just because the modules used on the 0.726 aren't there anymore, and much things lead quickly to frustration.
For example, using in the menu block another bullet style than the regular
, which should be the default elsewhere on the site. The damn
        is hardcoded in the menublock.

I just tried PadEd - looks great for what my client needs - I just have to figure out how to make the automatic upgrade from EZCMS work correctly...
  • Ok, PagEd is THE solution for my peeps.

The EZCMS import script had a malfunction - I found a workaround.
PagEd's developer is doing a great job - so the malfunction is already being corrected icon_smile

    The future looks brighter now.
