Help with Steel Database & Display  Bottom

  • I know these are difficult questions to answer -- they probably require that I know much more than I do. If you can recommend a path or resource for me to teach myself, I will gladly follow it. I have found little documentation on Chuck Steel's database module.

I'm trying to create a school booster's web site. PN has been a wonderful answer, and most things I have worked out. I would like to add some functionality for the treasurer. This would be admin-level access only. It is primarily to keep up with the payment of fees, track fundraising contributions, and keep student balances. I think that Steel's database module is perfect for this, but I'm struggling with how to integrate it. I have successfully activated the database and display blocks. I'm not sure what to put in there.
    1. Is the database just an entry in the PN database?
    2. Are the tables part of the overall PN database, or sub-tables of this PN database table?
    3. How do I enter data into the tables (not merely just DESCRIBE the data.)?
    4. How do I display the results? I can enter fields in a form in the SteelDB module, but I can't find a way to output it to a block which can be displayed on the page.
    5. Can these forms have buttons that are hooked the database (to perform queries, etc.)?

I'm lost. Fortunately, it's not a due-yesterday kind of project, so I have time to learn. Thanks for any help.
