I'm pretty green on the tech end, but I have modified aspects of my PN site before. This one has me stumped:
I hate the look of NS-Comments, and I cannot figure out how to install EZForumComments. So I just want to modify the appearnace of how NS-Comments appear in my article texts.
Two things:
First, I hate all the real estate lost to the bar that separates each comment in flat mode. I figure this is a table issue. Instead of two rows, one for user info and whatnot, and another for the comment, I'd like one row and two columns: pushing user details to the left.
Now, I have made flat my default setting, but it is hard to keep track of new comments when they can be inserted into a longer list of comments. So, I want the "Reply to This" link to point to the same function as the "post Comment" button, pushing all new comments to the bottom.
If anyone can direct me, that would be awesome!

Changing Appearance of NS-Comments?
-
-
You could try modifying the comments code in modules/NS-Comments
I really wouldn't recommend it - the comments code is appalling!

Why EZForumComments? EZComments (CVS Version 0.8) is fully templated and allows to change the appeareance with ease :)
-
When I installed EZForumComments, I kept getting a Smarty line error. All documentation I found online concernin this particular line error had something to do with updating "Post Calendar," but I could not find any such thing, and got confused. I do not think I have a "PostCalendar."

If you post the error you get, I should be able to provide you with a fix...

Thanks for your help:
Actually, after posting that last message, I decided to give the install another go. I figured it out! It had a line item error on a doc, and I kept opening the doc, looking at the line in question, and getting confused. Today, I decided to try a 777 chmod on the file in which the doc was located, and that fixed the problem. Now EZComments works fine, which was what I wanted all along.
Of course, when I clicked the thing to import all the NS-Comments, all anonymous comments look to be written by me now. So all the porn spam on my archived articles, and all the people who leave outrageous comments -- all of that looks like I wrote it now.
New Question:
Is there any way to stop the spam bots? -
If you use the latest EZComments CVS there are a number of spam prevention methods. Otherwise, just restrict comment posting to registered members only.

I believe I am using the latest EZC. I just spent an hour deleting spam comments, but at least the EZ admin interface makes it easier to see what all the comments are than the NS module. I don't want to prevent anon users from posting, but if there's a way to stop the spam bots that would be great. Maybe I should give it some days and see if they go away...

As I previously said, EZComments is now hosted at the NOC http://noc.postnuke.…rojects/ezcomments/ and the sourceforge CVS is no more updated.
If you have the last version :
- the bug of the anonymous comments transfered as admin comments during migration is now corrected
- in the EZCommenst admin panel modify configuration page you should see :
- [*:8f695f0c21]Moderation
- [*:8f695f0c21]Enable comment moderation
- [*:8f695f0c21]All comments require moderation
- [*:8f695f0c21]Number of links in comment before moderation
- [*:8f695f0c21]Words to trigger moderation
- [*:8f695f0c21]Words to blacklist from comments
- [*:8f695f0c21]Blacklist comments from insecure proxies
If you are missing some of these options, you don't have the last version.

Well, I must be about to really show my stupidty here... I went to the link above, but I cannot find anything to download, except to go to the original lotsasophie site, where I find what I already have — which is not what is described above.
-
That's because EZComments is still in CVS - there is no download link, you'll have to do a CVS checkout...
