Hi everyone,
I'm very new to the whole concept of postnuke and I was trown in the business of building a portal with Xanthia. The tool seems increadibly customizable and i think it will rock...when i'll know how to make it work!
Anyway,
I've read the pdf document on Xanthia, and read post about blocks. There is one question that was not anwsered (it might be because it doesn't need to be answered)
Ok there i could understand that using the "block control" function in Xanthia enable us to "over pass" the block setting in the admin pannel. However, block control seems weak in the sense that you have to change every single occurence of a given block on every module. So instead of wasting my time of changing everything, I would only not include this block in the Block control and use the usual block function to place it as i want. However (this is the question) how come the block emplacements I added in my Xanthia theme do no show up in my usual block function???
Maybe i didn't get anything right and have to work again to understand how it works. If it is so, please, can you refer me to good documentation and stuff.
Thanks,
Jean-Thomas Baillargeon

The blocks module and Xanthia block control do different things, but overlap in a few places (further integration between the two is an aim for the future).
The blocks module has been around since the dawn of time, and it works for all themes, providing the basic left right and centre block positions. You can use it with an Xanthia theme, but only if you plan to use the three block positions. To use any custom positions you have to use Xanthia's block control - it's the only one that recognises the extra block positions provided for by Xanthia.

Ok ok...and last question how do you set a block to appear on your homepage in a zone you created with Xanthia
(Using Block Control it requires a module...but what's the home page module if i use index.php as the entering point?)
Thanks -

The home page module is whatever is set as your start module in administration > settings.

And what about the Admin page?
I know that i can set pretty much the way i like for every module but on the admin page...how can you keep the same design as the rest of the site? -

OK well i could set the blocks' position in every module using bloc control. However, I can't have the same layout in my admin page. MY "custom" Xanthia position can't be used in my admin page since there is no active module...I hope it is easier to understand now.
thank you for you patience by the way! -

I see - if you were using .760 you might be able to set the block positions for the admin module, but you shouldn't upgrade until .760 is stable.
