After using PostNuke for a year or so, I tried Mambo when I was switching servers.

I found that while Mambo did have the pretty admin interface everyone raves about, the rest of the CMS didn't offer anything more than what PostNuke did. In fact, when trying to find a few modules (or whatever they call them over there), all I could come up with were complicated hacks to core PHP files on the Mambo forums. Not my cup of tea.

I've started with MD-pro than turned to PostNuke. It was about a year and something ago now. Took me some time to tweak it the way i wanted. And it worked pretty good since.

But, for the past month i've been giving mambo a go, and out of the box it kicks postnukes bottom regarding things i need.

    1. You can easily have HTML compliant editor which allows uploading images.

    2. You can easily have multipage articles, every page has its own title, and article page index is by default created on every page.

Yup. You can do (as far as i'm concerned) thousand and one thing with postnuke, but i really dont care about those. I'm just aiming for a online magazine solution.

I'm still reluctant to switch since my web site has over 1000 articles (and google indexed about 10000 pages) and i've written few custom PN modules so i'll think about this switch some more.

On the other side, Mambo is pretty confusing. I'm no noob by any means, but it took me some time to figure waht is going on regarding article approval, and a few other things.

In following months i'll be reevaluting postNuke and progres it made compared to Mambo.

Someone said this in one of the posts: PostNuke out of boxis plain UGLY piece of software, no doubt about it.
  • I definately agree that the GUI/Theme/Graphics of PN by default is poor. I also agree that the News module has needed a revamp for years. Your probably right about Mambo being better for online magazine too. What sells me with PN though is its advanced permissioning, powerful templating (pnrender and Xanthia), new emphasis on security, and its stellar community.

  • its just slang for "Outstanding"
  • I started about 1/12 years with Postnuke and tried various CMS too. One of the was Mambo.

In my Opinion, Mambo is not that easy. Especialy for somebody who start's using a CMS.

Actualy all CMS I tried wasn't that good. They all look the same have the same features "Poll etc" and you can't play tomuch with the design.

Postnuke when using AutoTheme is in my opinion the best choice to break out of the normal CMS Layout, as you actualy can design what you want.
  • Please see my post looking for volunteers to work on a comparison chart between PostNuke and Mambo. If anyone is interested then please let me know. We are definitely interested in giving potential users the information they need to make an informed decision/choice about which CMS is the best solution to their challenges. In addition looking at the best of the others we can improve PostNuke. :)
