v4bJournal - Initialised, but can't load pages...  Bottom

  • Ok, having a problem.

I got the latest download of this installed, etc. I had to rename the module directory from v4bJournal-0.98 to just v4bJournal. That's done, no problem. It initialised fine after that.

Now, when I try to access the Journal from the admin menu, I get this:

    Quote

    Fatal error :
    module = v4bJournal-0.98
    op = main

And when I try to access it via the main menu, I get this:

    Quote

Failed to load module v4bJournal (at function: "main")

I've run through the issues discussed in this post as well as doing searches here and I did run across someone with the same problem who solved it by finding a couple of file names that had been truncated. I looked at the filenames mentioned, and they are exactly as they should be.

I've checked the entry in the modules table, and it lists the module in state '3', which from the looks of it means it's initialised fine & everything?

    Anyone? I'm at a loss...

Hmm, it seems that there's still some directory confusion happening on your install. The error above looks for the module v4bJournal-0.98 which is the wrong module to look for. It should be looking for 'v4bJournal'.

Can you please post the relevant data line from nuke_modules for v4bJournal. Chances are that the fault is the result of one of the entries in that data line ...

BTW, did you check wether your journal tables (nuke_v4b_journal_*) where created successfully in your DB?

  • Ok, I went into my database, and sure enough, in the modules table, it was seeking the -0.98 module. I changed it to reflect the module named "v4bJournal", saved the changes and went to Postnuke. Refreshed my admin page, clicked and got the same error. Clicked the main menu link, same error (even refreshed).

I looked for the journal tables, and didn't see them. So I deleted the line in the modules table for the journal. Went to Admin>>Modules>>Regenerate and Initialised the module again, as well as Activated it. I should note, that the folder is named without the -0.98 suffix.

I checked the modules table, everything was named correctly. I checked for the journal tables, nada. Went to PostNuke and clicked the main menu item, same error as above (Failed to load module v4bJournal (at function: "main"). I went to Admin, and it's not even listed in my Admin menu now?

Would I be better off deleting and reinstalling it all?
  • Hmm, the fact that the module initialized but no tables were created seesm to imply something went wrong during the initialization. I would advise you to do the following:

    1) Remove the entry for v4bJournal from your nuke_modules table
    2) Ensure that that v4bJournal directory is called v4bJournal (rather than v4bJournal-0.98)
    3) Ensure that your webserver has read rights to all files in the v4bJournal directory. I've heard of users getting such a bad initialization when they didn't have read rights to all v4bJournal files.
    4) Use the modul admin to initialize and activate the module. This should at least create your v4bJournal tables. Once this is done, you should be able to access the module as usual.

  • 1) Check
    2) Check
    3) Check - every folder in the v4bJournal direction is a 766.
    4) Still not getting tables.

I think my PN install is buggered. 'Cause I've got duplicate tables for all of the core modules. Might this be causing the problem?
  • Hmm, I hate to say this, but the fault might indeed be in your installation ... pretty much the only problems realted to initialization were the v4bJourna-0.98 folder name and file permissions and transfer issues. So I'm not sure what to tell you other than the fact that from everything I know, the v4bJournal initialization routines work (I did test this under PN 750).

Why don't you download a clean 750 install and test the v4bJournal installation? Are you using 750 or an older release?

  • I downloaded PN, not a week ago or so. So it's 750 Gold or whatever is linked on postnuke.com in the top right corner.

I'm going to try tinkering with this a bit more (this is the first time I've had a few moments today to actually play around)...And see what happens.
  • I'm not sure why what I did worked, but I deleted every trace of v4bJournal (what does that 'mean', anyway? v4b, that is?) from my site. Deleted all the files, directories, etc...Re-uploaded everything, and voila! :D

Thanks for the help and patience! icon_smile
  • As I said, problem solved.

Had a bitch of a glitch with the file upload, had the specified folder set to the proper access, I thought. But, it also requires Execute access - at least, it did for me? *shrugs* Everything works fine now, though. icon_biggrin Look forward to tinkering with this and finding at least a couple of uses for it! icon_wink
  • Cool, glad you're up and running ...

  • Oh yes, you also might want to apply the patches mentioned in this thread ...
