Reading through this topic over the past 30 minutes has been a very interesting experience. The ideas seem pleasingly similar to thoughts I have had in the past.
I was a little disappointed that after only a few months absence, I appear to have been forgotten by all but Devin here ;) Just incase I have completely faded from memory, I am the Simon Devin was talking about.
I've had a very large personal project over the past 4 months that has taken 90% of my free time. I've tried to stay involved behind the scenes, but my forum activity virtually ceased, sadly.
Anyway, I look forward to the progress of this document.

I wondered where you were.
I'm having trouble accessing that pnGuide homepage. It asks for a pasword - am I just clueless? -

Nope, site was shut down, due to the load on the server. I believe it has been attacked.

Why not wish for eternal youth too ...
eternal "youth" isn't impossible..particularly for inanimate objects (as in "not living"). so long as everything is always new and changing the item can be re-invented for however long it's maintained.

Ok, a quick summary.
I completely agree with the merger of the docs + support teams, and their expansion!
Regular meetings are also a good idea - I keep thinking that we dont have enough meetings. I would perhaps suggest voice conversations rather than IRC though, saves my fingers. If it's needed I may be able to provide a server for such a voice-meeting (through a program such as www.ventrillo.org)
For the de-centralisation to work, it would be necessary for those members of the management to have access to basic things such as the permissions on this website. It's no good telling someone to go and add documentation without having the ability to give them access to Pagesetter on the docs site!
The design team is a different approach, but one I like a great deal and now think would be an integral part of the development process. It's not the job of developers to become masters of user interfaces and design - with the templating of modules, a design team could have real affects in the development process. Add to that tasks like the redesign of this site, and they'll certainly be kept busy.
Marketing is obviously vital as well, and something which could certainly be improved

..ya know.. starting to write this proposal and looking at the staff map.. it get's a little confusing.. apparently we have a doc team without admin access to the doc site? hahaha.. is this true?
I've got to print all this stuff out and lay it out on the floor.. it's a mess.. who are some of these people..? hahaha.. is this list current?
..I can understand why nothing's been done when "anything" you do garners criticism. I really think we should push one thing forward at a time.. and right now, Michael and Simon need admin access to the docs site. This is all that's needed to begin. -

No that's not true, Hammerhead is listed as a Doc Admin and there are several others who have access to help/manage/edit the docs site including Michael. Nothing has been done because people volunteer then then they get involved with life and if the things they volunteered for doesn't meet a need they have, i.e., scratch their own itch then it gets put on the back burner and is understandable.
Regarding the list, the list was written/compiled about five months ago so it is relatively current. If you have any questions please don't hesitate to ask.
Finally, can you share with us who has criticized your suggestions? Also, any news or progress on the summary of the suggestions so we'll have a working document?

definitely understandable.. I thought Simon had said that he didn't have access.. maybe I misread?

..hehe no questions.. I think it's a matter of not being able to match the usernames to "human" names :)

I was speaking relatively.. anything anyone does is up for scrutiny.. and often.. criticism. which isn't the greatest of motivators. ;)

Any suggestions as to a format? who's going to read this? how in depth does it need to be? I've started on a general proposal and will be plugging away at it this week.. but it might help to know "who" I'll be addressing. if it's just a summary that's needed, should be available by Friday at the latest. -

Thanks, the list doesn't need to be in-depth basically what I'm looking for are all the suggestions compiled into one document so we can see what overlaps etc with what we're working on with respect to the PostNuke Software Foundation.
I've been thinking about how we can provide a way for people to contribute to the project. Often times it isn't they don't want to contribute but people don't know what needs to get done or how to get involved. So it occurs to me we may be able to resolve the challenge by providing a way for people to learn how they "fit".
For example, someone is working on a project, they would like to donate it back to PostNuke but they don't know if it's needed or necessary.
What if this person could scan a list of current projects, our wish list etc. and instead of wondering they could quickly learn if the project is in need of what they have. Another example is if someone wants to contribute a few hours/skills and one of the tasks from the list interests them they can take it on.
The idea is to automate the process so people don't have to jump through 10 hoops to get involved, they see a need, they act, they help, then they donate their efforts back to the project. They get recognition for their work, the project benefits, everyone wins.
No more worries about who should I contact, who's who in the project.
The goal is about empowering people to take action, not impede their progress.
I know this is just one piece of the bigger picture but it is a step in the right direction!
