This could be a problem with the module you are trying to install ... is it limited to a specific module or is the problem occuring for all modules.

You may have been trying to install a version of PNphpBB2 to was not compatible with the version of PostNuke your are usiung.

What other modules are you having trouble with?
What version of PostNuke are you using?
What version of PNphpBB2 are you using?

well actually PNphpBB2 was the only module i got to work... ive tried installling My_eGallery-3.1.1.g, magnish and at-lite_8_pn. they all say they are active in the modules list but i do not see a button for them when i go into administration.

currently using PostNuke .726-1 i think...

It could be that the database is not being updated or the permisions on some files in the modules might be wrong.

If you have not progressed far with PosrNuke you should move to PN0.750 as there have been some security patches released that have not been back-ported to PN0.726.

PN0.760 is in the pipeline (currently at release candidate) so it is best that you are not behind if you are still starting out.

If you can I highly recommend you upgrade to .750 to start with. besides lots of nice stuff you really ought to do it for security reasons, you could even go straight to 760 if your site is not getting much use.

It sounds like there is a problem with setting the pnstate in the database, upgrading should fix this. you can then install all the latest versions of the modules you want. Your forum should be upgraded anyway for secuity reasons.

Maybe stay away from My_eGallery with all it's problems and go straight to gallery, not the RC versions though they are still buggy. Or you could look at photoshare.

Is there any ballpark estimate as to when .760 is expected to be a full stable release? I've been going through some major turmoil in getting .750 to work on an IIS 5.0 Windows host and finally things are starting to work right.. so far. :) I am somewhat in progress of installing new mods and customizations. What will be involved in installing .760 when it goes Gold?

    Thanks,
    Jim

There will be some changes to file structures in the modules area, the NS- prefix on several of the modules will finally be dropped in .760, so that will cause some trickyness, but other than that, should be the usual process of back up everything, delete everything, upload the new stuff, put back 3rd party modules, test, done.

The procedure Michael outlined above has been the recommended procedure for upgrades in PN for a long time, (see the install.txt file under "upgrading" in the copy you currently have installed).. It is just part of the normal process of upgrading from a previous version. People always get into "trouble" trying to circumvent that procedure by just uploading new files over their old ones and expecting to get away with it..

You *must* backup your site and your database prior to doing any form of upgrade - personally, I do this before installing a new *module* let alone a new version of PN itself.

There will be *many* good reasons to upgrade to pn760 when it is finally released as the latest "stable" version - bugfixes, security, newer advantages - most of which is in the associated "release candidate" article found in news.postnuke.com - and I have seen several more while "playing" with it since then.

Its your site and your call - my recommendation would be to go with pn750 for now and be prepared to upgrade it to pn760 when released. In the long run it will be well worth the effort.

Hmm, my two cents turned into 4 paragraphs again... Gotta quit that. ;)

The new Modules module and Admin panel in 760 are worth the price of admission alone I think.

ok so ive tried upgrading to .750. i overwrote the old files and left the config.php and oldconfig.php alone from the previous time like the upgrade guide said. but after trying to run the install.php i got the following error:

Warning: main(install/language.php): failed to open stream: No such file or directory in /home/sites/www.grownfolksbiz.com/web/install.php on line 124

Warning: main(): Failed opening 'install/language.php' for inclusion (include_path='.:/usr/local/lib/php') in /home/sites/www.grownfolksbiz.com/web/install.php on line 124

Fatal error: Call to undefined function: installer_get_language() in /home/sites/www.grownfolksbiz.com/web/install.php on line 126

    any ideas?

You don't run the install.php when you're upgrading from 726-750.
