Is there a newer version of NS-AddStory that uses the PostNuke API and pnRender? -

No - not at the moment. This module along with submit_news will be rolled into a single news module for .8x. The majority of this is coded already - the main work to be done is on supporting modules (categories and comments).
Also please ditch the reference the PHP-nuke related NS- prefix - we have with .760......
