I am trying to implement a online DB driven registration system for a small summer camp program and am looking for fresh ideas.
Overview:
Basically I need a shopping cart... but I thing PostNuke may do better. The product is a day camp program and our inventor is the number of campers we can take each week. I would like to show "inventory" in real time and use PayPals IPN to control inventory for online registrations. Also I need to wright all "registration" form information to a DB and send it to the office vie email.
But... I also need it to be able to have the office register some one, OR EDIT WITH OUT A PAYMENT, and keep the "inventory" displayed correct.
Also looking for a way to query the DB for the registration information and show it in different ways to the camp director and office.
I know it can be done, but I am new to DataBase driven information. any help or recommendations are welcome.
This also could be a paying job if the price is reasonable.
Thanks,

Don't bump, it's against the rules. Plenty of people have seen your thread and will answer if they want to. Basically you are looking for some type of ecommerce system here for PostNuke. In light of the requirements, especially the inventory needs I don't think you will find your solution in PostNuke.
In regards to the database queries, this is not difficult it just takes a little learning of PHP and mysql. I would say by followoing the tutorials on the net you could be proficient enough to do this yourself in a few weeks (even a few days if you are dedicated).

Ah.. I know I say in the posting guidelines that a BUMP was ok, just don't double post. I will look for that... but I will bump no more.
I am aware that I need and e commerce type system, but I also need it to don more that any "CART" system that I know of offers. If PN is data base driven Why can't it do it?
I also don't need most of the other stuff that is assisted with most shopping cart programs. -

Bumping posts is fine but the choice of forum wasn't so.... ;). The general chat is for non PostNuke related 'hanging out'.
I think if you re-read Lobos's post you see it's not that PN CAN"T do but it doesn't at the moment. The power of open source is that you have access to the codebase to modify it so it does. PN's modularity means that if there's not a solution our there then you can code a module to do so.
Wether you have the skills or not is another question entirely. But there as sites like rent-a-coder that allow you to put the project out there if you don't have the skills to develop the solution yourself.

Well sorry about that, I didn't think you were allowed to bump, in fact I'm sure I saw Michael telling someone off about it awhile back...
Yes I was a bit misleading there... you can find the solution in PostNuke, but you need to think of PostNuke as the platform - just think of it like a large shopping complex, you have the security(pnapi) and many other features offered by the actual building (pncore), then inside you have a multitude of different stores (you would think of these as modules) the thing is that you need to buld your own little shop if one does not already exists that caters to your requirements :)

Ok, I mis spoke it the first post, I know PostNuke is the CMS that makes it all happen, and that is what I like. I most certainly need a module to do what I am looking into. What I am most interested in is weather you guys think it will work and how complex it aperies to be?
Since PostNuke already uses modules and permission to manage the system I just thought that what I was looking to do might integrate well into a PostNuke site. (not that PostNuke would "do it" sorry)

I am working on the skills, but at this time I can only do HTML!
I did look on the pro site for PostNuke but did not feel like registering for am account. But I have no problem with paying someone to do the work. Now if I am asking for a module that will take 3 weeks to code we can stop here.
please
Recommend any coder that you feel would do a good job.
Thanks...
Mark
