Looking for advice  Bottom

  • Hi, need some friendly advice.
I'm wanting to install an apache system on my XP OS & setup PostNuke for testing purposes. I know there are a lot of different packages out there, but would prefer some input from a PostNuke user who has already setup an Apache system on there XP. Any advice would be helpful.
    Thanks Micheal.

You have two approaches to this.

Firstly setup each individual component (apache,PHP,mysql) individually. This will get you the latest, greatest versions of each but will take longer. This is recommended if this is to be a production server.

Secondly you could use one the pre-packages installs of all components such as http://www.foxserv.net. This would be ok if you are installing a setup to your workstation to run as a development platform.

I use foxserv on my own development platform as have had no significant problems with it. There are other alternatives to foxserv but this is the only one I have used.

  • Thanks Mark, the reason is developmental as I would like to try out a few ideas on my original site but to minimise disruption I'd first like to experiment on a mock up of the original, this is also ideal for testing PostNuke with regards to upgrades, module testing and so on.

Foxserve sounds ideal so i'll nip over there right now and give um a look see.

Thanks again Mark for the advice.
    Micheal.
  • Yes I have a few PN sites locally running to test things on my box. It runs foxServ 3.0 on WinXP
  • I also use foxserv, works great. I've also tried nusphere and wasn't impressed.
