Ok, I am trying to assign a new style to the title and body of a news post if you are viewing it as an article. So, I open the newsuswerarticle.htm and find Smarty tags like:
Where are these outputs defined?

They are sent by the news module, and available to the theme.
The tag you posted outputs a topic image, which is linked to the search module. Clicking that topic image will display all stories posted under that topic.
