  • Ok, so yeah, postNuke CAN do blog, and if I wanted to spend the time to set it up, it might do it allot better.

But, I need a plug-n play software that specifically is designed for Blogging. Anyone got any choices? Open Source is required, and PHP is perfered.
  • What about the blog module written for use with PostNuke? You can find it here.
  • I'd say MovableType or TextPattern.. a pnBlogger dist "could" be a pretty good idea..extendable, but BlogCentric.

    good luck ;)
  • Movable Type is uses a commercial distrobution method, and as such is not a system for me.

Text Drive looks Great, I will check it out. I am installing nucleus, and will check that out if she (my sister) finds it too complex.

PostNuke requires too much work for this simple task. I expect it to be a plug and run system. A postNuke distro would be nice... ofcourse dont say this too loud around here, or people will actually feel that the distro method is necassary for postNuke to grow.

OF course I am comenting about the common response that people give when you suggest creating a distro... "but its so easy to install this stuff"

Well yeah it is easy to install it... just difficult to configure everything to work just right.

    is software

    VERY NICE, INSTALL AND GO...
Really cool site, definately good first impression. Would be a great model for someone who wants to create a blog distro for postNuke.
  • ..hey that is pretty cool.. I lost my list of blog apps, so those were the first 2 off the top of my head.. MT is probably the most mature & popular.. it used to be free until fairly recently (still is free for single authored site i believe)..

I don't think custom distro's are a bad idea..when I was doing that personals thing (mod), i was asked to build an entire site around it with IPN enabled memberships etc.. I passed based on personal reasons (think piss 'n' leather :? ), but haven't ever really shook the thought that it was a really good idea (the distro). ..back to the blog thing:

..it will be a lot easier "when PN .8 arrives" .. total control of layout, full API integration and a slim core.. I like the idea.. blogging is big.. BIG.. and while PN possesses the tools and potential, it's not seen as a Blogging app.. which is really the reason I chose it.. granted, mine's not yet nearly done, but I do think when it gets further along it will help establish PN as a formidable contender. That's something I'd like to see..

PS: should have mentioned WordPress as well.. too late :)

  • Word Press looks really good... but the ability to find plugins is horrible at best:(

Maybe I am missing something, but I cant find a list of plugins available... I
  • Found Plug-ins... Turns out Nucleus is not a very active CMS. Therefor I removed it and installed the WordPress. Very impressed.
  • excellent :) .. of the three, i'd definitely choose WordPress.. next would be TextPattern.. WordPress is very easy to use.. there's a theme system built into the next release as well..

I did see your post yesterday, but I've not been home much at all (my furnace blew up :x ).. I looked and didn't find any..and was starting to wonder :)

hope it works out for her (your sister).. I like that it allows you to post to the blog via email.. that's pretty cool..
  • its in the Wiki... it is REALLY hard to find...

  • Hi,

if you've taken a look at v4bJournal and didn't find it to your liking, I would be interested to hear what features it (didn't) have which made you choose another package.

    Thanks/Greetings

  • I'd definitely go with WordPress. The community there is super great to work with, and there are a lot of resources for it.

    http://te.os42.com/
    http://planet.wordpress.org/
    http://www.bloggingpro.com/archives/category/wordpress-plugins/

Those are 4 of the best 'off-site' locations for information.

Hope that is of some help.

    Peace,

Im sorry, I didnt try it. It is just too much to set up a whole version of postNuke, then spend hours taking out everything I dont need, then adding new modules, and configing everything.

If you want some help making a postNuke .750 Blog Distro, I would be willing to help out.

    Thanks
    Michael
  • Michael, I don't have the time to dedicate, but I'd like to make it happen.. need a Wiki or something to map features, pull what's available from CVS and go from there.. I "should" have more time in January.. bills, bills and more bills to pay :?

    [edit]
..oh yeah.. this too .. it would be pretty dumb to not pursue this avenue.
  • I use WordPress. Somewhat goody to theme if you want a 3 column layout, but its otherwise simple, elegant and easy to use. It gets me vote. I wanted to use Postnuke, but its just seemed to feature bloated for a weblog.
