Theme Designers based in Melbourne, Australia  Bottom

  • Not sure if this is the right place to post this but I am sure someone will let me know if its not.

I am looking to obtain the names of people with postnuke theme design experience based in Melbourne, Australia for current and future work opportunities.

Persons interested should write to me in the 1st instance @ mgarcia@canines.com.au
  • R there any Postnuke users in Australia?
    R u using original themes?
if so please let me who did them for you!

    or

if anybody knows of any theme designers Melb based who wish to be rewarded financially for theme work pass this on or let me know at the above email address.
  • There are only about half a dozen dedicated theme designers. I'm not aware of any in Australia. The closest is Lobos who, until recently, lived in New Zealand.
  • I am staggered, I wonder if this is also true of Postnuke in general?
  • I'm sorry but is there really such a need for the person to live in Australia, Melbourne?
  • Thanks for your reply but I am not sure where u r coming from.

I can see the benefits and advantages of a local designer over working with one not local. Aside from the oppotunity to meet regularly and discuss, brainstorm argue.... whatever.

Having said that what would be the detail required by someone designing a theme for someone else.

  • Kenshino I was hoping you may have continued with this thread by detailing what a theme designer might expect in order to create a theme for a client r u able to define same? do you know? r u able to assist or not!!

I ask these questions as I would like to build a network of people with specialist talent for future work.

  • Two things. First, an appreciation for the amount of time that goes into creating a custom theme (and the resulting cost for the designer's time). Second, a clear list of specifications/expectations for the finished product. Having a nice customer is also a plus. That is about it for me.

Well look around here... virtually none of the Postnuke devs live close enough to each other to just drop by for a coffee and a brainstorm. I say this; you will be very lucky to find 1 postnuke professional living in your area, let alone a "network".

You will be limiting your chances if you do not look outside of your locality.

I normally require an image or template to work from, or in rare cases I will take on a custom theme, but this is very rare and I require a very detailed explaination of what the client requires. Also add what Warrick said above.

off topic: this reminds of when I was applying for web designer jobs in New Zealand, they all wanted you to live within 2 miles of the damn companies... I just couldn't get.. isn't that what email and the internet are for? Maybe the just want you in the office to keep an eye on you. Anyway no one would give me a job so I created my own (stuff working my ass to make some other goon loads of money!!!).

  • Thanks for your rply but theme design is more than just images and colors its also about athetics and functionality. Clients have a concept or they visualise there web pages but cannot express what they visualise on paper or in words.

Do you mean an image or template of the expected outcome? text /border/background colors, navigation bars etc. Hell if I could this I'd do it myself(not being rude, but I am serious)...what I am looking for is someone who can take a clients concept and make it real...... for those of us who artistically challenged.

  • I don't think Lobos is saying he can't or won't do that. The point is that web design at a very conceptual level requires the designer to make prototypes and adjust thost prototypes based upon customer feedback. Eventually the prototypes reflect the customer's vision for the final product. I don't mind doing this. However, the cost is at least $500 and sometimes more. The investment of time that is required necessitates the cost.

Lobos point is that a person who has an image or other concrete example can get his or her custom theme completed quickly and for a reasonable cost. It simple a matter of how much time we have to invest in the project.

  • Nah. You just need to charge what it is worth to you. Everyone's economy of scale is different. I just don't have time to do $100 jobs. Even a simple job takes a couple of hours. Course I don't have to tell you that Mars. You know as well as anyone :)
