A friend of mine is putting together an adult-oriented site and asked if I thought PN would be a good thing to use to manage it.
Any thoughts?

He's wanting to basically setup a community that is paid, so things like movies, pictures, webcam, and stuff like that. He said he's been looking for something to "automate" this a bit more, but hasn't found something. -

if he's expecting REALLY heavy traffic it might not be a good idea to use PN - espectially on a shared hosting account.
also, from an SEO perspective - postnuke is still sorely lacking
apart from that i dont see you having any major difficulties -

..some would argue with both of those claims.. PostNuke.com is a high traffic site & ShortURL integration has been the accepted cure to the SEO issue for a few years now.
Your friend should sit down and think about everything he wants in a site and then start looking to CMS to fill those necessities. There are modules available to do everything you've mentioned thus far, but they also exist for other systems.. important features he might consider useful in the PN framework might be the permissions system, Group accounts, security and extendability.
good luck,

You could visit http://www.cmsmatrix.org for some comparisons. I recently did some serious comparisons among many of the more popular and highly-rated CMS packages listed at cmsmatrix.org, and I have concluded that PN is the way to go (in a general sense). PN will likely have all you need, or enough support via this site and elsewhere to achieve what you need. But what it really boils down to is what you need your site to do. Does the CMS have that ability? If not, is it worth trying to hack it to your needs? Or is there a CMS which accomodates your specific needs? -

Thanks! I was beginning to wonder about it, since there haven't been any comments.
Back to the subject at hand, I'd also like to point out that PN 0.8 sounds and looks VERY promising. I installed the CVS version on a test site and it was fabulous... not done, of course, but what I was able to test and play around with was awesome. I think if you have time to wait a bit longer, 0.8 is gonna place PN as the "King of all CMSs". Color me impressed. :D -
