I noticed that Mozilla does not handle the command correctly.
Is there a command that does the same but also runs in Mozilla?

This should work in IE, Mozilla, Firefox, and Opera:

It doesn't work in FireFox because it's not valid HTML, it's MS specific.

If I wished to embred sounds on a webpage I would use a small .swf flash movie - you can then create controls to turn it off and on - as many become irritated with sounds palying on websites unasked for...

You're not kidding! I find those bleepy/bloopy hover sounds an annoyance at the least...same with ambient background music and sounds. To me, they're none more than cyber-kitsch. Yea, I can disable them from playing (in most cases,) but by that time, I've already wasted bandwidth/time on it, cached it, gotten annoyed on it, etc...
Of course, one could use a MIDI file to save the load time, but MIDI files are simply Muzak for websites, and an annoyance in themselves. ;)
Sorry Kenshino for getting off-track. I guess this was just my longwinded way to say, "...I agree with Lobos...include a 'turn off' feature..." ...unless the site is geared toward ultra-green internet users...in which case you could probably pass off bgsounds as ¤bling¤bling¤

Sound is OK when the default is off.
Sound is good for a radio station.
Sound is great when it's on your competitors server.
