pnCommerce or OSCommerce???  Bottom

  • I wonder if I can get some suggestions on the differences or benefits between pnCommerce and OSCommerce? I want to build an online store and can't deceide which one to go with. I've never built one so I don't have a clue as to what to look for. All I know is that they both seem to be free and offer the basic features I'm looking for. So with that said is there anyone familiar with either that can let me know what other features I should be looking for? Security, user access, pay options, tracking, etc.
    My setup is the following:
Webserver: IIS6 on W2k3 web edition
    Database: MySQL 5
    Language: PHP 4.3.4
I'm hosting my own server and I already run 2 PN sites on it so I'm not concerned with my server not being properly configured to support this product.
    Any responses are appreciated.
  • i would go with oscommerce.

pncommerce does not seem to have been updated for a long time - you can now also use any AutoTheme postnuke themes as oscommerce skins too!
  • hmph! I just noticed that. Oh well, guess I'll give it shot and see how goes.

    thnks
  • Right, pnc development is quiet in the moment because there is only one (=me) working on it and I have some other projects too (pnForum 2.0.0...).

Please keep in mind that pnc is integrated in PN while oscommerce is a standalone product and its using pnRender which makes it fully configurable too. Just check out what you need and compare them.

  • I'm running into some issues getting osCommerce to work on my w2k3 server setup and I'm wondering if there's there any reason why the current version of pnc wouldn't work?
I guess my other question is whether this is a module or an actual PN installation?
    thanks
  • Nevermind. I just signed in and located the manual.
