Shoppingcart and importing databases  Bottom

  • A thinking of using pncommerce or whatever is easier in long run. Needs to make least work.

Sooo, assume pncommerce [or what you use] is installed with defaults and basic info.

    1) If I import products with their categories, name etc. into DB will it be seen automaticly by the cart?

    2) Do I have to do a lot of clean-up or extra work to show the products??

Perfect solution: Install a cart.. leaving at default. Import products. Cart works. Ready to shop after changing some defaults to reflect me. 8)

Not perfect: Have to create all cats etc. etc. by hand and then import with a lot of changes and fixes after. :(

Anyone has thoughts, ideas, suggestions or whatever??? Please share.
  • Importing of items and categories can be done quite easily with phpMyAdmin and a .csv file. Jim did this on one of his websites with >7000 items. There is a document in the pncommerce package that decribes how to do this.

If you need more help, go to the support forums on support.pncommerce.com (I think you did this already) and ask Jim to give you a push into the right direction.

  • Saw the doc explaining how.. that's not the problem. :) Problem is how much extra work AFTER import. Saw no mention on what pnc will show or do once there are products in the DB.

So, will the cart show cats and products once imported auto or do I have to go and add/select products to be actually shown???

All boils down to that once products are imported is cart ready or not? Reason to make sure is that I just don't have time to do a lot of extra stuff otherwise I'll drop it since it's just a side project. Thanks..
