FanFiction Module  Bottom

  • I desperately need a good fanfiction module for my site. I was going to use Fictioneer because I used it a long time ago when I had PHP-Nuke. Though, the site appears to be down (fictioneer.net) and I've searched around trying to find maybe someone who has it on their server but their download links always links to Fictioneer.net

I've also tried e-Fiction (orodruin.sourceforget.net) but this module is a standalone script and I would really like something integrated.

Does anyone know of another fanfiction module out there? Or possible somewhere I can download Fictioneer? I'm using Postnuke .750 Thanks!
  • What functions do you expect it to have?

Modules that are not designed to be FanFiction modules may also be able to do the same things.

You will have to specify to get more results!
  • Sorry, I wasn't more specific. I didn't expect there to be any other fanfiction type modules out there other than the two I listed above so I wasn't going to be picky. I would like it to be relatively close to the fanfiction module you see at fanficiton.net. I'd like for users to be able to categorize their stories by genres/characters/rating(PG, R, etc.). And I'd like for users to be able to submit reviews.

Also, does anyone know what exactly happened to Fictioneer (just curious)? Did the person stop supporting it?

    Thanks!
  • You might want to check out Pagesetter.
  • Thanks sampson for the idea. I'm not sure if it's what I'm looking for, I need more of a fanfiction-based module that can allow a user to submit a story and put it in categories of genres/characters/ratings. And the fanfic has to be in each category based on what genre/character/ratings were specified. I'll definately look into it nonetheless, even if I don't use it for fanfiction...it looks like it could really come in handy so thanks.

If someone can come up with another module, or tell me where I might could get Fictioneer to try out please let me know, thanks. If no one knows, then I'll give Pagesetter a go :)
  • Fictioneer looks really good, actually. I would love to see a port to PostNuke.
  • I'm still rather new to this stuff, what is a port? Would that be like an integration of a module into a CMS? Because I thought Fictioneer was integrated with Postnuke...I must be thinking of PHP-Nuke it's integrated with. Hmm...are there any integrated FanFiction modules out there then?
  • Just incase anyone's wondering. I emailed Rivka (owner of the eFiction script at orodruin.sourceforge.net). She said she's currently working so that the next version of eFiction will be integrated with Postnuke. It might be out before Christmas :)
  • Really? I'd love to see that text. Efiction is the best module I've seen so far!
  • Gosh.. I need to bug poor Rivka again and see if she's progressing. I know it can be pretty hectic trying to develop for postnuke, so I shouldn't be mean - but my users - (Aiieeeee, the users!) are demanding the best.. and so far it seems to be E-Fiction.
Pagesetter is a lovely system, but man, is it ever hard to set up and manage!
  • As of about a month ago, Rivka has handed off the script to someone else. She said she needed to concern herself with scripts that would actually pay her money. Anywho, efiction.sourceforge.net is the new site now and the new owner is Chirho. So far he's progressing VERY slowly. He released the alpha for eFiction three weeks later than he said he would. Weeks after alpha testing, he still hasn't released the beta nor has ne given an expected date for it's release. So, progress is going very slowly...but I'm praying it'll all be worth it when the new version comes out. So be sure to look for it within the next couple of weeks (Hopefully!)

Yep, I completely agree. That's actually an interesting observation. When you (not you personally - I mean "you" in general) have a simple inflexible system like the standard PN News module you don't spent much time on it, instead you argue about how inflexible it is and want more. Then, when you get that flexible system you know that you can do all the things you want - but now you must invest time in it. So now you argue about the time you spend setting it up ...

I make the same observation with my own work. It's a lot easier to tell your users "sorry, not possible" with the simple system. But when you have the advanced system, then you know it's possible and start spending hours and hours on it. Is it worth it?

It's not so strange that we feel more and more stressed with our work (including sparetime hobbies like PostNuke (for me at least)) when we get more and more freedom to tailor the output and functionality. And feel more and more pressed to get it exactly right - we expect more and actually we also get more, but it is at the cost of a lot more work for us.
  • Perhaps you can give Pagesetter a spin using this template:

I haven't had time to try it yet, but maybe it's usefull for you.
