Chat Module?  Bottom

  • I really need to be directed to a good and easy to install chat module. I want to add this to my site and have been installing and uninstalling stuff for the past few days and nothing really seems to work like it is supposed to.

    What is the best chat module out there that does not need to be installed as root and that does not need to be connected to an IRC server?

    Thank you.
  • I am looking forward to this reply myself

    I have tried phpMyChat, ToChat, PNjIRC, SPchat

    But i have found none to my satisfaction, if there are any more PN-chat that can be integrated as a module (not standalone), please help.
  • Ok, so what features are you guys looking for? What's undesirable? tss, what have you tried that you didn't like?

    Frank
  • FlashChat at tufat.com. Plus I noticed a new version of SPChat was posted, but I haven't tried it. I used to use SPChat but it was way too buggy. The new version of FlashChat is very stable and feature-rich, and under active development.
  • I just installed FlashChat. Well worth the $5. It is currently designed as a separate block. I would prefer that it is accessible from within the main menu (so the user/pass is transfered); and opens in a window (or tab) within an iframe (so it does not look like it jumps out of the portal). Cas Nuy is investigating whether it is easy to write a bridge that will address both of these issues.
  • Hmmm. It doesn't do that for me. When you enter, it opens like any other module. The chat area is embedded into the site. No popup.
  • I can't get it to work - error is:

    Fatal error: Cannot redeclare pnconfiginit() (previously declared in C:\Program Files\Apache Group\Apache2\htdocs\includes\pnAPI.php:81) in C:\Program Files\Apache Group\Apache2\htdocs\includes\pnAPI.php on line 79

    Any ideas?

    They now have two different installations available for it... one that acts like a module, embedding the chat into the site. The other will pop-up into it's own window. Someone also created a "who's chatting" block that works quite nicely. You can see the embedded version on my site at http://www.bobplumb.com.
  • ..aww Wendell where's the love? hahahah.. I made that block.. I thought you were one of the 2 people I made it available for? ..i could be wrong ;)

    I'll always recommend FlashChat.. and Darren (mr. Tufat :) ).. is insanely responsive and personable.. it's was the best $5 i've spent in a long time.. actually, i even paid another $5 for the upgrade.. good stuff.. definitely.
  • Yes!! I was hoping you'd respond... I couldn't remember for sure who made it, although you were my prime suspect, but I didn't want to misspeak and give credit where it wasn't due. Anyway, it is a great block and works flawlessly. Thanks a million!! :D
  • haha okay.. you're forgiven icon_lol

    good to see it's getting some use.. i remember being less than satisfied with the code, so it'll probably be re-visited at some point ;) ..it works, it's guts just aren't pretty.

    take care!

  • I installed flashchat a few weeks ago and it works great! The only issue I have is that I can't get it to open inside the Iframe.
  • I had been using SPChat, but it seemed to die on the last update. I have been hoing to come across another chat module that is free, is not IRC, and you do not need to telnet/ssh in to set up(since my host does not provide this option). Of the options it is looking like Flashchat is going to be my best bet, but one important thing I would like to see first is the license agreement/eula...Can someone send me a copy of it(the eula, not the mod). Also, I like the themes, but can you make your own for it and lock out the changing of the theme?

    Take Care,
    Michael

    ..depending on the version, you may need to add this to the index.php file in the FlashChat module:

    Code

    include('header.php');
    [-- CONTENT --]
    include('footer.php');

    you should also change the height and width of the flash image in the same file.

    Michael: you can create your own custom themes or even modify the ones available.

    good luck,

  • Just to know if it's worth a try, does it work with the last PN 0.750 release?

    Bye.
