Problem with display of blocks  Bottom

  • I'm at wits end and here to plead for help.

I am running Postnuke 0.750 with AutoThemes 0.8. I've created my own HTML files for the blocks as well as the theme.html file. My pages are appearing correctly with Firefox 1.0PR, but MSIE 6.0 (SP2 included) is causing all left blocks after the first one to be embedded under the centerblocks.

    The site is at http://ldtonline.com.

Any input or ideas is greatly appreciated. Thank you!! :D
  • Not in my browsers. I checked Firefox, IE6 and Maxthon. Tehy all look fine. Cn it be the fontsize settings in your IE?
  • Thank you for checking. I did some tweaking late last night and now the menu won't appear at all in IE6. That's probably what you saw. There should be a menu below the login block. It shows up in Firefox but not in IE.
  • I just looked at the page with IE 5.2 on a Mac. The menu appears... between the login and the center blocks. However, on the same machine, Mozilla renders it correctly.

My suggestion would be to switch to Extralite and see if it works properly. If it does, chances are it's a problem with your theme. You might also try swapping the order of blocks and see if that makes any difference.

As an aside, it might make more sense to swap the login and navigation blocks' positions, unless the majority of your visitors are logging in. Otherwise, wouldn't you want something as important as a navigation menu to be right up top? That's an extra $.02 for ya.

Layout aside, try changing themes and see if you get results. Let us know what happens!

  • Thank you for the suggestions, Frank. I did exactly what you said and you are right... it seems that the theme is at fault. Switching to ExtraLite displayed the blocks correctly.

After switching the theme back to the one I want to use, I tried playing with block positions as you suggested. This was enlightening in that it showed me that any left blocks after the first one get pushed into the centerblock, regardless of which block is the first one. That said, I'm still stumped. I've looked at the theme.html file and the block files until I'm dizzy and for the life of me I can't find the problem.

Good point you make about the positioning and I agree... I've laid it out just as the client requested, but I am going to pass this on to him. He may agree with you as well.

Thanks again for your comments! :)
  • If you feel so inclined, send me your theme HTML at frankuva at yahoo dot com and I'd be glad to stick it into dreamweaver to look it over. Sometimes it only takes an extra pair of eyes to find that one funky tag.

  • Fixed!! :D

Get this... to fix it, I had to alter the tag in the leftblock.html file to include valign="top". Go figure.

Thanks again for your help and the offer to help some more!
  • Glad you got it to work.
