New URL rewriting scheme? Better maybe?  Bottom

  • Hello,

I have suggestion to make changes for short URL-s (both for Xanthia and Auto Theme). Suggestion is related with URL rewriting scheme.

Now we have article221.html, phtml, htm ... for sections and other modules section_1.html ...etc ...

I am in PN community from first days of postnuke birth and tracking allso other CMS-s.

What I recently done and decided not to use Post Nuke but Mambo CMS with search engine friendly URL-s like folders (see demo of URL-s
http://www.dalmatia.…iviera-Split/Split/ ) - this project is still under development so don't take it as finished website.

This search engine modification (commercial) for rewriting URL-s on mambo use some big sites like http://www.seochat.com and http://www.devshed.com and they have great results on search engines, especialy with Google AdSense tuning cause for AdSense name of file/folder allso give big importance.

I don't know is it a big job to make it for PN like above sample, but in Mambo this commercial mod is 30-40 lines of code with some config parameters and few lines of .htaccess and I bought it cause it is awesome and results are getting better on SE.

However I love Post Nuke and I use it for a long time (and would love to use it in future) so this would be great version of new Rewrite engine for Post Nuke.

Thx for consideration, allso further discussion about this topic is appriciated icon_smile

  • This posting is very similar to this other thread: http://forums.postnu…&t=32173&highlight=

Changing most of the short URL implementations from using hyphens as separators to using slashes as separators is not terribly difficult. However, as noted in the other thread, being able to generate short URLs with article & category titles is problematic.

Couldn't this be done if the titles were superfluous?

For example, what we now might rewrite to www.yousite.com/Article123.html; could be re-written to www.yousite.com/Article123/TheJoyofCooking.html. Yes?

  • I'we started this discussion also on spidean forum, there are some benchmarks done with proposed URL scheme with google, yahoo and msn.
