How do I get useable images using Print Screen button  Bottom

  • All right, I have a little bit of a problem that has me stumped so I thought I would make a posting here to find out if anyone knows how to do this.

I am trying to take screen shots as I install PostNuke .750, basically to be used in some documentation I am working on. I take the screen shot by just hitting the Print Screen button. I then go to my Adobe PhotoShop Elements package, and paste the screen shot into a new file there.

Initially the writing within the screen shot looks rather bad, but I save it to a png file and when viewing the png file it looks fine. I then upload it to the web and when I view it there it looks bad again, really unreadable.

Anyone have any thoughts on how to capture screen shots so that it is readable when viewed over the web?
  • I use the little program from http://www.hardcopy.de/
  • Thanks for the link, I will look into it and see if it does what I need.
  • Myself I just hit print screen, open up paint (or photoshop) and paste the image in; make sure you save it as a jpg and not a gif.
  • Why is this tread in the recycled bin?
  • Good question.... Not sure why Ira posted it here initially - perhaps because there's no obvious forum it fits into. I'll move it to the third party themes and design forum since this is probably the closest.

  • Yes the best way to do this would be to use photoshop, or even better (my baby) fireworksMX2004. YOu will always have problems with clarity when changing the sizes of images and a good way to alleviate this a bit is to have sections at the orginal size (ie what the focus is) while the rest is smaller, kind of like a magnifying glass on the relevent information.

An easy way to do this would be to paste the screenshot into fireworks, then copy the area you want as focus and paste. Then select the orginal file and manipulate it as required (tip:trim the image down to the information needed as this will save file size), you will then have two images which can be exported as one with the text remaining legible.
