HTML URL link problem in News story

Hi,
I want to put a link in a news story. I tried this. I made sure to select "HTML formatted text" in the dropdown menu below the story box. When I previewed the story, I saw "this" displayed, but the tag was gone. When I actually submit this story, will the link display correctly? Did I do something wrong? Thanks.
P.S. I'm sure there's probably something about this elsewhere on the website, but whenever I try using the "Search" box in the upper right corner of the page, I get "No articles matching your request."
