Possible to take a free theme and change its looks?  Bottom

  • I was thinking of taking a free AutoTheme and redraw the blocks and change the colors to make it look like i want. ...
(seems to me that would be easier than doing a theme from scratch)

I did that with the theme I use now but its not an auto theme..
  • I do that. I took the Squares theme which is a legacy theme and made 10 different color variations of it. I also have converted some legacy themes to autothemes and changed the colors and such. I am good with all of the mechanics of building these themes, but I am not a good idea man. I have a hard time coming up with my own designs. I am good at copying and modifying.

  • thanx watcanz
  • I think there is also an example theme included with the AT-Lite module that is pretty easy to follow. Acutally it's really just like making a normal web-template; all you have to do is take into account that the blocks will have to be able to duplicate without breaking the layout.

  • What's the license on it? I'm guessing that it's the GNU General Public License (GPL). If so, have at it!

With the freedom the GPL gives you, heck, you could even take AutoTheme 0.7 and rework it and sell it yourself. Most of the themes I've seen are GPL'ed -- check it out.
