I'm not sure if the source of my problem really lies within this module, but I need to start asking somewhere...
I'm using Updonwload 1.82b3 on PN 0.726, running on Gentoo Linux with Apache 2.0.49-r3. Everything worked fine until a while ago, when suddenly (unfortunately my users - students of our department - aren't very talkative when it comes to reporting errors/problems, they just wait if it goes away, so it took a few weeks until I was told of this) downloads didn't work anymore. A while before that I had enabled secure connections and all was working just fine.
Recently however, if someone wants to donwload something, Postnuke will from secure connection switch to "normal" and then say that the user does not have permission to access /downloaddir/filename on this server. At the same time, the Apache error log gets an entry saying "access denied by server configuration".
Updownload is storing complete URLs for each file - including the protocol. So, most files had an entry "http://mysite/completepath/filename", while some had an entry starting with "https". (Those I must have uploaded using https.) Meanwhile I changed all URLs back to normal http and it seems that downloads are possible if I connect to my site using normal http, if I use https however, Updownload still wants to switch to normal http the moment I click on the download link and then tells me that I don't have permission to...
As I said before, our students didn't tell me at once, so when I checked the logs, I noticed the first such problem probably happening three weeks ago. I can't remember having made any modifications then, but it's still hard to tell. Also, not all of our students would use secure connections and not all of them will download things, so it's really hard to tell what I could have modified that lead to these problems.
So, my question: Has anybody encountered similar download problems when using secure connections? Does this perhaps have to do with the way Updownload handles download URLs? I already searched a few forums regarding apache and mod_ssl, but couldn't find anything related to my problem. Also searches here were quite fruitless, it seems not many people are using secure connections...
