Thanks eight17. I'm not offended. I was just taking the opportunity to voice my opinions, as you did and hopefully give the newbie some background and information.
BTW, People do have a choice. Three choices to be exact. There is the "legacy" way of designing themes in PHP and HTML in the theme.php for which there are still many themes, there is Xanthia the new templating engine to be heavily utilized in the .8 release of PN and there is AutoTheme. It just so happens that the majority of designers that wish to create and sell or give away themes and the average users that wish to offer up their themes to the community have chosen AutoTheme at this point.
Thanks!

Zoom
Since XTE is derived directly from Envolution's Encompass Theme Engine we may port all of our theme driver addons over to XTE and make those available to the PostNuke community allowing all Encompass, AutoTheme, PHP-Nuke, and Xoop's themes to run natively without requiring any "converting" or "porting" of themes.
Wow thanks Zoom, this will make it easier for my customers to install their themes and cut down on support overhead for me. Thanks man :)

eight17, as mentioned previously, the pnThemeCollect project has made its first release for PN .726. With one download you can grab over 70 themes. All themes require no components other than PostNuke core and have been verified to work.
You can download the pnThemeCollect archive here (no reg. req'd). -

intnsred - why in the world didnt you just zip the file...Anyway, thank you eight17 for going through all the trouble for me. It is absolutely ridiculous how hard it is to find a professional looking theme. Not lime green, not something with the nav bar going diagonally accross the screen, not one with 10,000 graphics you have to download..Just something nice, simple and well organized-like the theme this site uses...
And for the life of me I can't find anything free on autotheme.com. You need to put up a BIG link to the free stuff-just like you do in the title of everything you post 144 FREE BLAH BLAH BLAH <---that is the kind of link you need to have on your site. -

I thought I noted that in the file's description.
A *.Zip of the file was 6.06MB. The same data in .tar.bz2 format was 4.83MB. That's more than a 20% difference! And in the future, that archive will no doubt grow.
IMHO, Zip is an outdated format. It doesn't save file permissions and it's now woefully behind in compression. Anyone remember when we switched from *.ARC format files to *.ZIP because of a ~5% savings in file size?
Besides, in the file's description I noted a couple of sites (#1, #2) where Windows users can download an archiver that'll handle .tar.bz2 if they don't have one. -

I say thank you to postnuke, AutoTheme, pnphpbb2 and all the module and block creators for all the free website building software. I am such a newbie at this stuff and PN has made it challenging but fun to start my own website. With all the support forums in all addons of this software it has been easy to find cure for most my troubles. I have learned alot since I started and still learning alot but, to have it all FREE is great. Thank you to all of you and hopfully I will be able to contribute knowledge wise and money wise someday. I cant believe people still complain about all the free stuff you can use. :(
Thank you

:x Wait a minute! I never once complained about the "free stuff." On the contrary, my complaint was simply the lack of good free non-AutoTheme themes. Nothing ever against AutoTheme, just that the quantity of "regular" themes were quite lacking. And I believe this particular thread resolved that issue quite nicely. The quality or quantity of PostNuke modules and other add-ins was never even mentioned.
I am a big advocate of open source - I use quite a few open source products (besides PostNuke) myself. I fully appreciate all the efforts and experience the contributors provide. For instance, try finding a support forum such as this for any Microsoft product!
