"Session initialisation failed" due to htmlpages m  Bottom

  • Hi,
I've had my PN site up and running for less than 24 hours, but I fear I may have brought about its untimely demise. I downloaded the htmlpages module, but I think I made a big mistake in the installation process. I don't know how to unzip files using an FTP program or anything like that, so I unzipped the file and tried to copy the files over manually. However, instead of making a new directory for "htmlpages" in the "Modules" folder, I unzipped everything directly to the home directory. I know for sure that I overwrote a few files. Now, whenever I go to my homepage (or any other page on my website), I get a white screen that says "Session initialisation failed."
That doesn't seem like a good sign. Is there any way I could possibly get my site working again? My only idea would be to delete all the files that I copied from the htmlpages module, and then try to replace them with the original PN files from pre-installation that I still have saved on my hard drive. The pages that I copied from the htmlpages module were pnadmin, pninit, pntables, pnuser, and pnversion. The only one of those pages that I have a pre-install copy of is pntables. Is there any promise last-ditch repair attempt, or preferably, is there a better way to do it?
Also, just for future reference, is there any way to make PN more idiotproof, or do I just have to try to be less of an idiot? Over the course of a day, I've managed to mangle the site once trying to download themes, and then as soon as I got it working managed to kill it again with this htmlpages module. Knowing myself and my luck so far with PN (it took about a month to install it), it seems like these kind of mistakes could be recurring. Any suggestions for safty in the future, short of Backing Up the site before every change (which takes at least an hour because of my slow server connection)? Also, are there any programs like phpMyAdmin that I could use for backup available for Mac OSX? Any advice would be appreciated, and thanks for your patients. =)
  • Well, if it's the contents of the htmlpages directory, apart from the docs folder, which is user documentation and not too important, I only see the user.php file being overriden. So, assuming you have the original PN files, upload that file and see. If somehow you didn't retain the folder structure and everything got dumped in the root, I'd replace admin.php as well.
