about postnuke interface  Bottom

  • I was excited to know about Postnuke 6 months ago for its great features' stuff. I started to build my site with postnuke but till now I can not get a reasonable site because of user interface problems. Somewhere it this forum already mentioned about it, just I want to add in one more case.
+ First thing is menu system, postnuke default menu is not user-friendly. A user who is not webmaster or administrator will spend too much time to scan I point mouse to a menu item. Visitor to my site complain so many times and I still have not succeeded solving this problem. This is my site, please take a look and give me any ideas: http://k43bcnsh.mine.nu . Remember to switch to english at my site if you do not use vietnamese.
Great thanks to whom who can help me for this problem!

+ Another thing is graphics, as my feeling at first sight, postnuke (the postnuke homepage) uses too many lines, underlines and sharp-edge image. That cause me a eye-disrupting look. I have been searching a commercial theme but not found any good theme yet. I mean commercial theme availble for postnuke still have a somewhat-messy look.
"Why is your site have a really messy look?" you ask?
icon_redface I sorry, my hands are not following my head, and my skill does not fully support my imagination neither. Also, I have not given enough time to visualize my idea.

However, I want to give my great thanks to Postnuke developers. I will support them whenever I can. (Poor me, now I don't have money, or skills icon_redface :|. It is not good to go long way along :x )
  • Hi there,

All of your problems can be overcome by learning how to make themes; in the old days this was very difficult, but now it is easy and actually quite fun and I assure you that in the time it took you to write this post you would be well on the way to learning how to make a theme by looking at an existing one.

The thing that I find somewhat disturbing is the fact that you have been using Postnuke for 6 months and are still asking these kind of questions. Postnuke is very user friendly, but if you want to extend and personalise your website properly you really must learn at least some theme design.

I can assure you this, without a doubt: with time and effort you can make a postnuke site look the same as virtually any HTML based site on the internet today - and a few of the flash ones as well.

So my friend get AutoTheme or Xanthia and start learning :)

PS: I believe the Postnuke.com website design is a good display medium for the kind of content it presents. I don't come here to look at the design and wait 10 minutes for images to load I come here for data and postnuke gives me this quickly. Me and my 56k modem are eternally grateful for this.

    Kindest regards
    Lobos

  • Just to add to Lobos' excellent post, it is true that you can do almost anything with an AutoTheme. Most commerical and free themes adhere to the 3 column structure because most people want it. However, there is no reason that one must do that with an AutoTheme. Take Lobos advice and dig into the code of an AutoTheme. Its really rather simple. Once you figure it out, you will also realize that incorporating javascript, dhtml and flash is easy too. With all those options you can accomplish almost anything.
  • So I am disqualified for web-owner if I could not costomize the theme myself, aren't I? :D Thanks a lot for your direction and comment, Lobos and autothemes. You gave me much encouragement!

-->Forgive me, I start learning HTML and PHP one month before I came to know postnuke. You've confirmed again that I need to learn faster.

Actually I already accustomed with Autoheme concept and structure. I have some ideas but I am bad at graphics manipulating too. So it looks bad.
By the way, I am building my site into bioscience education site which use both vietnamese and english. I have many ideas but not able to put them out on web. Any ones interested are welcome to join me and thanks for any envovlment.
Again, Lobos and authothemes, thank you very much :D wink
